Child Mortality in Cyprus!

Postby lindy1706 » Mon Apr 17, 2006 1:09 pm

I am sitting in my office overlooking the front of our house with a wonderful view of the road which runs outside. At the end of our house is a 4 way junction with 4 x 4's going up and down at a good lick and also cars streaming round the blind bend.

So can anyone explain to me why our neighbours 4 year old is dragging his tricycle to the top of the hill and freewheeling it down into their house which necessitates him shooting across 2 roads one of which is a blind bend  There is a gate to their property this remains open......every so often either I or Husband go and grab him and take him home. His Mother is always very happy to have him back, surprised that he was again at the top of the hill but nothing happens to stop it.

This child seems have 9 lives.... so far this year I have run out of my house on 3 occasions to the new build over the road to try to persuade the little love that standing on the top balcony is not a great idea.....thank god the windows and doors are now in!

Don't even get me started on the fireworks!

So I know this little boy is much loved and if anything ever happend to him the family would be distraught so why oh why is he allowed to take thise risks........I am all for allowing a child freedom to explore and but at 4 years old this is madness and I am tryly terrified that one day I will have have the horror of seeing him eithr fall or be knocked over......it almost seems that his Mum is proud that he is fearless...... Is this normal for Cypriot kids, boys espically to be allowed to do anything they like. He is actully a great little chap and climbs into our garden via the roof of my car (!) I quote often find him sitting in the living room with the dogs usually having raided my biscuit tin.

I suppose I really am looking for a way to bring this up with his mum without offending her ......any thoughts

you can complain to the police saying that the mother is not responsible and lets the child run on the roads.

A 4 year old needs supervision. If this were a 10-14 year old boy, it would be different but 4 is too young to be allowed free range on a bicycle.
