Cans For Kid's Current Fundraising Scheme-We Need Your Help!

Postby joanne » Mon Apr 17, 2006 4:46 pm

The ‘Cans For Kids’ charity is currently raising money for a new and more efficient ‘Can Baler’, as the number of aluminium cans that are now being collected greatly exceeds the capacity of the small machine which has been used to date. As a result, the charity is having to sell uncrushed cans, which means they are sold at lower price, therefore, less money going towards equipping the paediatric intensive care unit at Makarios Hospital in Nicosia – the charity’s current project.

The new, semi automatic can baler the charity urgently needs is going to cost £16,000. ‘Cans For Kids’ has written to companies and individuals asking for donations to help this reach this target and the response has been fantastic. Contributions have so far been received from as far a field as Russia, New Zealand and the Czech Republic, as well as Cyprus.
To date, they have received over £3,000 in donations, and would like to thank the following companies and individuals; Alasia Travel Ltd, Austrian Airlines, Barbican Financial Services Ltd, B.A.T. (Cyprus) Ltd, Bekker Issaak, Chrysanthos Antoniou & Sons Ltd, Cyprus Mail Co Ltd, Dr Andreas Kamenos, Electricity Authority of Cyprus, Ernst & Young, Highgate School Parents Association, HSBC Bank Ltd, Internaut Shipping Ltd, J K Vavlitis (Hotels & Leisure) Ltd, Janet Demetriades, John Gibbon & Sons Ltd, Kenneth & June Jenkins, Lanitis Bros Ltd, Medstar Ship management Ltd, MPM Eurocars Ltd, Mr Be Herbet, Mr David Martin, Mr G J Molyneux, Mr and Mrs A Leonard, Mrs A.J.Cambell, MTS Summertime’s Travel Ltd, Navigo Shipmanagers, Plaza Hotels Enterprises Ltd, Pricewaterhousecoopers Ltd, UNICARS Ltd and Unicom Management Services (Cyprus) Ltd.
There is still some way to go to reach the target of £16,000, and the charity is hoping to be able to purchase the new machine in time to deal with the increase in cans collected during the summer months so that more money can be raised to purchase new and improved facilities and equipment at the Makarios Hospital. The hospital is the central paediatric hospital in Cyprus, which treats seriously ill children from all over the island.
Meanwhile, as ‘Cans For Kids’ continues raising funds for the new and more powerful can baler they are in desperate need of volunteers to help with sorting and crushing the cans for two hours on a Saturday morning at their recycling centre in Nicosia, so if you would like to volunteer then please get in touch as soon as you can.
If you want to volunteer or would like to make a donation then please contact:
