Welcome to the forum macwomble

Aplogies - many of the state schools are excellent in the UK. I'm not too sure why the UK education is so badly thought of - what the experiences have been here to merit this.

I never discuss topics about the UK that include England only, the UK is a wonderful mix of all 4 countries that combine their own flavour and culture and the UK would not be right without the mix . It is a shame you have jumped to this conclusion so quickly - surely I would have said 'England' not 'UK' if this was the case. "English Curriculum" is what the system is called within the schools in Cyprus - words only.

We plan to move but it may take well over a year unfortunately. Like you the forum is good for getting a view on attitudes and issues in Cyprus - good and bad, although it can get rather heated at times.

Try www.cyprus.angloinfo.com also for information re education, shops, property etc.

Hi svetlana..... by illegal supplementary lessons, what exactly do you mean???? Macwomble's wife here, and it is my son (14) who will be going to school in Cyprus, and I don't want to be breaking any rules or anything by getting him extra lessons if it isn't allowed.

Hi (Mrs) McWomble

Schools end at 13.30 here, so many teachers give supplementry lessons in the after`noon (for a fee) which is illegal. Should a child require additional tuition there are legal sources - but not State school teachers 'moonlighting'!
