PROBLEMS WITH BRITISH & EU WORKERS IN CYPRUS

Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

I advise checking with the local UKCA in which ever town you are living in. You will hear about good workmen both Cypriot and British along with several other nationalities. Ask there if they can put you in touch with someone who has had work done by a painter, electrician or whatever you need. There is possibly more of a problem now because many believe they no longer need work permits to work in Cyprus since joining the EU. I am not an EU fan so am not sure if it is true. I would have thought they still need to be registered in Cyprus as a worker to pay tax and insurance.

When I worked there first it was as an Alien but I became a Cypriot after my marriage and therefore no longer needed a permit. I know good and bad workers of many countries. Rarely do you get a good job done on the cheap unfortunately is a very true fact.

I am interested to know why you would think he is not in cyprus :P

Also I would like to know why you think that because he isnt that means he has no right to express his opinion. So if you lived in Cyprus and something happened in the UK does that mean you have no right to talk about it? And do the foreigners that live in Cyprus have more say than Cypriots that live abroad? I would think not.

Thumbs up to andri here!! I was about to say the same thing. In a way I agree with lysi
"the thing is that there are plenty of british people who live in cyprus and dont want anything to do with the locals. they think they are better then the cypriots and like to live in there own little communities, some dozy brits still think cyprus is a british colony because of the british military bases there", but of course we cannot include all foreign people british or not. It is more or less up to the personality and character of each individual person. The same behaviour can be seen with Cypriots leaving in London and they cannot even speak english even though they have been in London for years. I remember when I was a student at the Uni in UK and most Cypriot and Greek people were not blending with the locals, but were always in groups... Shame!
