Hi Kira27967,

A name day is the day when someone celabrates their name, to put it blindly. For example on Saint Basil's day (1 January) anyone called Vassilis (Vasil in Bulgaria) will celabrate. I think the name day tradition is only an Orthodox thing. Please corrrect me if I am wrong on that.

Hope that helps.

Piece of advice: you do not invite people round for your name day, everyone who wants will visit and celabrate with you.

Thank you blue.... It would seem that this also happened with my husband in Spain many years ago.

Would appear to be a Christian thing for many people.
