Turkish Cypriots protest for human rights

Postby Sotos » Thu Apr 27, 2006 11:59 pm

Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and Britain yesterday staged a demonstration in Brussels to call on the European Union to restore basic human rights to the Turkish Cypriots.

Turkish Cypriots should protest in Ankara for their human rights. Can't they see that the rights of Greek and Turkish Cypriots are violated because of the occupation? Or they want only their rights and they want the violation of our rights? Greek and Turkish Cypriots should protest together for the rights of everybody in Cyprus.

The first thing you should do before you demand your own human rights is to accept that the human rights of all should be respected.

Protesting for your rights while at the same time supporting the human rights violations of others is hypocritical to say the least.

As I always say, the first step for a solution is an acceptance from all sides that the solution of the Cyprus problem means the respect of the human and democratic rights of all Cypriots without racist discriminations. Will we ever see Turkey accepting such universal principles as the basis for a solution? Or they will keep insisting on illegalities and human rights violations while at the same time they will protest for only their rights?

The demostration in Brussels should of been called "isolation of the turkish settlers" rather than "isolation of the turkish cypriots" by them.Since turkish colonists are the magority in the occupied north.

And how would you know that? Do you live in North Cyprus? Or let me guess, your comment is just pure propaganda BS?
