I agree that Lysi is entitled to freedom of speech but there isnt freedom of speech on here if there are rules, we all know the rules and they should be obeyed. Lysi without a doubt feels very strongly and she is well within her right to, i know i would if i was lysi, but why bother with personal attacks its not getting him/her anywhere but closer and closer to being banned from here, lysi if you could just make your opinions without getting personal people would be more likely to listen to what your saying and empathise with you instead of just getting upset and refusing to listen to your point. We are aware of what happened to your family and im sure if we could all turn back time, us british included, none of us would have wished for the history of Cyprus but none of us can. I agree ppl should be thinking about what they are doing when buying property in the occupied areas, but they are just looking for that cheaper and better life, and im sure most do not buy property to personally upset you, most are being told its totally leagal, and ok, most of us know different! We all have a right to our opinions and I dont think it would make you any happier if everyone agreed with you, that would just be boring. If I were you I would get upset if ppl made personal attacks on me and would want to attack back and these ppl should be warned too. It is better to make your opinion without atttacks than it is to not be able to make it all isnt it?

I have read this thread with interest. Being a British citizen who is considering moving to Cyprus, (after travelling there for the past 30 years), I am interested in all subjects here. Lysi does has a point about the situation in the north but to start a thread with one title and then change the subject is a bit out of hand. Lets keep this entertaining forum on the rails.

(By the way, if you are concerned about who is buying land in the north, none other than Roman Abramovich is said to be finalising a huge land deal around Kyrenia and to east, up the panhandle). Technically, European but definately NOT British!!!!!!

Re: BRITAIN CAUSED MOST OF THE TROUBLE IN CYPRUS

I think he should be banned for being boring, he rolls out the same old garbage in every thread he can....

Just for the record;

...Fearing greater expansion by Russia, Turkey induced the British to administer Cyprus.
Under the enabling convention, signed by Turkey and the United Kingdom on June 4, 1878, the British received complete control of Cyprus for an annual rental of about US$500,000, while Turkey retained nominal title. When the British administrators assumed office in 1879, they were presented with a petition from the archbishop and the Greek community calling for enosis (Greek, “union”), that is, the political amalgamation of Cyprus with the kingdom of Greece. The petition was denied.

Seems like there was already a divide when the Brits arrived! :roll:
