I believe that as far as the principles of the religions they are very very close if you pay attention and learn what they are about. I also dont think islam is responsible for what its followers are doing. Islam as a religion and concept would probably be against acts of violence. They talk about peace and stuff not selfbombing.
I think the problem is that the Arab/Islamic countries are a lot with soaring populations not to mention their hatred for the world and some times for each other. So, you hear of more muslims as terrorists but I wouldnt be surprised if statistically they were close to any other religion.

Religion is a method of control developed by people to people. In that case it can take any spin and any turn with any velocity.

According to my knowledge so far all I really see is the way religion changes according to the mass's general mood , lifestyle.

In this case oppression and poverty due to 3rd party targets in their own country. While as these people have been kicked around by that specific 3rd party , they grew bitter and religion was the medium to convert them that way. I do not blame them , but they are not stable.

there is no christian - muslim clash.
its sth way simpler. the people who have found themselves sitting on the most important resource that the west needs happenned to be muslims. it has nothing to do with religion.
