ADSL Order/Install Process ?

Postby BigDutch » Thu May 18, 2006 2:26 pm

Assuming similar to UK where i've probably ordered and setup near to 20 home LANs from various ISPs ...

1) Get a standard CYTA PSTN 'phone line
2) Go to ISP, give them the PSTN number and provide money
3) They get CYTA to mess about in the exchange
3) On a certani date you put the login details from ISP into your own ADSL router and away you go ..

but this is Cyprus so tell me how it needs to be done ?

I'll need a dedicated public IP, no proxy-server and complete port range available -- so which ISP/package do you suggest ?

I am afraid it does not work like that in Cyprus

1) you get a PSTN line
2) you order ADSL service to CYTA (aka i-choice)
3)when i-choice is installed they provide you with an ADSL modem then you select an isp
4)you contact the isp and start subscription
5)you enter your isp details according to the isp in the i-choice web gui
6)you 're on

To be able to get a public ip you will need a business package from i-choice and a business package from the isp. Unfortunately you pay two subscriptions one for the ADSL line and the other for the isp.

From contacting the ISP and being able to use the service how long does can this take ?

In a multi-user scenario is it possible to have a router that is logged in all the time ? ie the router plugs into the ethernet port of the modem and performs the relevant login, then any machine connected to the router get access without having to login ?

i've looked at Cytanet, SpiderNet and Netway, who all offer "+IP" connections which i assume is a public IP? The only one of those three that appear to not user a proxy server is Netway.

Yes, you don't need a business i-choice to get a static IP. Cytanet is not using proxies either but they block several ports. Best are Netway and Otenet.

Hello,

What i know, is you need 1 month to have i-choice and then you can take wich isp you want, when you have i-choice, you can call and be connected directly.

what is the best now ? spidernet ?

No, Spidernet is the worst at the moment.

Netway (do not mix them up with netrunner), OteNet and Wavespeed or Speedwave (something like that, can't remember which it is). The latter has not blocked p2p ports so you should hit maximum download on that, though they are the most expensive ISP.

Within some minutes after you call them. With Netway you can pay online and get the service immediatedly

You login once and then all the computers have connection from the router. You don't need to connect each time. Once every some months you might need to reconnect which is something that takes 1 minute.

I don't know how they do it but I know they do it. If you want to use P2P the best is netway. They even advertise that p2p flies with netway! Maybe Speedwave is also good but I never used them.

WaveSpeed also has online registration and you can be up and running within seconds provided you have your i-choice service installed. Their website is http://www.wavespeed.net
