thanks for the interest cabbie.
I've been looking at bmw's at the moment.
A 330d duty free in Cyprus is roughly £22400uk, whereas back here its more like £34000uk.
when you sold themin the UK, were any costs incurred ay all then, ie import tax, car tax whatever.
You see, i got all the information leaflets from UK customs and the only way to get a car in, is if it has 6000km on the clock and its 6 months old.
If i could somehow do this in cyprus, for instance store it and run the clock up on a rolling road, ok, the car would not be worth as much selling with miles etc on, but theres still money to be made i'm sure.
I'm just wondering though. If i was to store it etc in Cyprus, would customs want something from me or would it only be if i was to actually run the car in cyprus.
Do you see what i'm trying to explain?

You haven’t really understood the problem.

The double-cab was bought duty-paid. There is hardly any duty on trucks here so not point in buying duty free.

Buying duty-free here is subject to terms and conditions and you’d have to in some way pay the duty before leaving Cyprus or on importing it into the UK.

As I mentioned earlier, if it was a simple process we’d all be shipping cars back to the UK but we aren’t! ;-)

The rules about the 6000km and 6 month, its for a used car where thes VAT has been paid !!! So not bought in duty free!

You want come to live in cyprus ? do you have the nationnality ? How do you want have this duty free ?

If you love cars Cyprus is a nightmare !! With the tax, and road tax.

you buy a car here (VAT + duty free) and you export it to the UK. upon arrival in the UK you register the car (first reg in the EU for the car and therefore u pay UK VAT for it)

why do you save??? simple: car dealers in Cyprus do get cheaper prices from car manufacturers beacause of the heavy taxation scheme (to make car prices more even worldwide)

as simple as that!!! i have a close friend who does this for a living and he might be able to help you with this.

send me a pm and i can give you all details.
