import duty tax on a boat.

Postby unique_earthling » Thu Jun 01, 2006 5:54 am

i have a question hopefully someone can help, a friend is wanting to bring to cyprus a 9 metre boat but was told today that the import duty tax to allow his boat into cyprus could be extremely high. The boat is worth £32000,00 english pounds and is 10 years old. He is hoping to come out in July. The boat is being transported from England by ship and he just wants to spend a year exploring the island and surrounding coastline. Has anyone out there had a similar experience and gone through the process and got any advice.

I was under the impression that now because we are in the EU the 40% luxury tax on pleasure boats has been abolished???

He should just come to Cyprus with his boat and take it to a marina. This way he will not have to pay any taxes :P

well sotos, i think chartering the seas in something that small is not advisable. But i did find out that if he has payed VAT on it and has the reciept to prove it, he is not liable to pay more, but will pay VAT on the transportation of it to Cyprus, which is not a great deal. So lets hope its smooth sailing from now on.. :)
