TV SYSTEM ?

Postby jazzy1 » Mon Jun 05, 2006 4:22 pm

As my move to Cyprus gets nearer I am trying to sort out shipping my stuff over etc.
A while ago a posted a topic asking if I bought my Tvs with me from the UK would they work in cyprus.
I was told that yes they would after slight adjustments.

What adjustments would that be? I know someone over here that may be able to adjust it for me before we go

Can anyone tell me what the TV system is: pal i, pal b, secam ???

Thanking you

My Tv's work on PAL-I in Cyprus but they didn't need any modifications other than a tweak in the setup menu.

Some tv's need a chip fitted so they can receive sound, this costs (i'm told) £25 each.
Mebbe you should try them out here first and see if they work before altering them.

Think also about what you will be watching…

If you want a Sky system so that you can get all the UK TV channels then your existing TV’s will be just fine.

For terrestrial TV, you need your TV chipped which is an easy process to do at between £20-£30 (depending on where you go). For satellite systems, no, your existing TV will be fine.

I had my Toshiba Pro-Logic TV chipped. Unfortunately, the Pro-Logic is no longer Pro-Logic. Have since installed a sattelite system so will be getting the work done reversed to get the decent sound quality back.

Am I right in thinking that in order to get Sky TV in Cyprus, I will need a 2.8m dish in the garden?!?!?!

You will need a 2.8m dish but you can put it on the roof also ;)

I don't think our house is designed to take a roof mounted dish! :(

I watch Sky TV when in Cyprus. I found a company in England called Insat International, www.insatinternational.com that supplies Sky cards all over Europe. They guarantee uninterrupted viewing and are very accommodating. Highly recommended if you want some quality viewing from back home.
