If CYTA/Areeba say otherwise they're just talking nonsense and are simply trying to sell you a new phone which due to the lack of operator handset subsidies here in Cyprus makes them substantial $.

It is possible to get all the latest Symbian smartphones & toys such as the N80 and Nokia E Series over here from numerous sources. Alternaitvely buy it in the UK before you come over but prices are about the same from what I can see.

The one drawback of Areeba when we moved to Cyprus from the UK in Augutst 05 was the lack of integration with Vodafone - meaning you can't send/receive texts to Vodafone subscribers overseas. Given CYTA is now Vodafone branded I expect this is still the status quo but may be wrong.

Hope this helps.

Hi,
I don't think this is the case anymore, as my son is on Vodafone and I send and recieve text to and from him.

It's good news that you can get Nokia N80. If anyone hasn't seen this phone it is definitely one to check out!

I have bought several phones abroad recently to use in cyprus...

Jas Jar
Motorola V3 x2
Nokia 9300

All of them work fine with Cyta So Easy or Areeba PAYG... And a Cyta Contract card...

Dont buy in Cyprus as they are MUCH cheaper in the UK due to the way the UK companies load call costs to subsidise phone prices..

Most will need sim unlocking before use with a network sim not associated with the phone...

:D

But if you get your phone in the UK, do you not have to take out a term Contract?

I use a Sony Ericisson P900 and Vertu Signature.

Precisely!

That's why PAYG 'phones don't work as I stated earlier...

Well I dont know how it works there, but in the US you can buy NEW cell phones on ebay and other sites and put your sim card in them. Thats what I did with mine.
