Well, some extremist EOKA members killed so called 'traitors' that's what happened, I don't see why they shouldn't show it...although there were many supporters of EOKA, who weren't involved in those crimes, I guess it kind of taints there name, however, in every country, in every society, whether it's democratic or not, there are always fanatical and narrow minded people, I mean look at what the US troops did in Iraq with those prisoners...And the young men who were shot during the first world war for 'desertion'...

I've started rambling again  :D

Peace!! :)

Thats okay RichardB, I can forgive you, although you'd have to catch me on a good day...but hey don't worry, for me it's a good day 99.9% of the time...

You know, I reckon I've come up with another catch phrase already,

'I've started rambling'

99.9% is so last year now.......

Lol! :D

Ordinary people are pouring in donations to Panikos Chrysanthou for his filme to be shown in the festival. For greek readers:

P.S. A guy from Famagusta donated 1000 pounds and said "thank you very much for accepting my donation. If Cyprus follows on the path to totalitarianism, I will ask my two kids who are now studying abroad, to remain abroad and never set foot in Cyprus again".

Was that guy you by any chance?

Totalitarianism: a political system in which the state, or the governing branch of the state, holds absolute authority, not allowing any opposition group.

Maybe the definition should be changed to "Totalitarianism: a political system were the state does not give out money to people without a specific contract they should honor".

I guess all countries are totalitarian according to you then. If you know of any country that it is not "totalitarian", let me know. I will go there to sing them a song of my choice of which they have to sponsor for 50.000 pounds.

Regarding this case, as far as I know there was an official agreement. If the two sides disagree, then the case should be taken to court and the court will decide who is wrong and who is right.

Or maybe who is right is who Bananiot and Droussiotis say is right? That would be the case if we had a totalitarian regime. Fortunately we don't.

Meanwhile he can pay out of his own pocket (and not ours) and make whatever movie he wants. Nobody is denying this right to him.

Maybe you'd change your tune if the government shut down this forum because it is sometimes critical of its positions. How would you feel?

Censorship doesn't have to be direct. Any badly intended move, like with the Manifesta cultural festival, or with this guy's film, smacks of authoritarianism and over-control of the arts.

Big Brother always starts with the artists and intellectuals, so before defending this insidious behaviour, think first how it could affect your right to express yourself freely.
