International schools in Paphos

Postby les » Mon Oct 02, 2006 7:50 pm

Does anyone have children who currently attend international schools in Paphos. I know there is the American Academy and also the new International school. which we favour for all the outdoor sports facilities. I would love to hear from anybody with their views. Thank you.

I know about English schools in Limassol but not in Paphos! In Limassol the Grammar School is considered better than American Academy.

Hi Les I have two children at the international school of Paphos one in year 11 and one in year one both are very happy there it is quite an academic school my daughter would be happier doing things like Drama. health care, and PE for her G.C.E.s however both have many friends both english, cypriot and Russian. The new school does have amazing facilities. All the staff are very nice and they are very approachable i hope this is helpful feel free to ask me any thing and I'll try to answer.

We're due to visit next week, hopefully moving in Feb. We're going to see the schools on Friday so will let you know! Our girls are 2 and 6 so fingers crossed!
Susannah - is there a PTA or family network?

Since the move to the new school a social group has just started the first thing is raising money for the new library. If you chose the school your daughter would probably be in the same class as my son the teacher is fantastic. Friday the 27th is the day we break up for half term so school will close at 12.55. did you know the school day is from 7.30 till 12.50 for the lower school and till 2.05 for the upper school i'll never get used to the early start!!

Hi Susannah and Zebedee, great to hear from you. Whereabouts do you live? are there buses to the school? If like me you have older and younger children both finishing at different times is there a afterschool club for the younger ones so that you don't have to make additional journeys? my children are 15, 12, and 5 (and a 21 year old at Westminster Uni in London)My 12 year old is not very academic and is already a little worried about the entrance exam - should she be worried? My 15 year old likes the look of the school as she is very sporty, but also academic. I guess Suzannah that your children haven't moved to the 'New' International School yet? when does it open exactly? Did you look at the American Academy at all - sorry lots of questions I know! Les

Hi les please tell your 12 year old not to be worried about the exam my 15 year old has always struggled at school and did very badly in the maths part of the exam however her previous school gave her a very good report and she got in, ant way the school say it is not an entrance exam it is just to see where he/she would best be placed really if my girl got in then any one can!
We have moved into the new school it opened sept 14th. There are lots of after schoolclubs for the older ones to do however there is only a homework club for your 5 year old but i sit in the new cafe with my son and do his homework there while waiting its very good. i did look at the American Academy however at that time the older children had to travel to limassol for school far to far, also my daughter is very sporty and they just don't have the same facilities. they are going to be building a new site someday but they have been saying that for many years. Glad to be of help i wish i had found this website before i moved over!!

Hi Susannah, Thanks for that. I did look at the American Academy in Paphos - only a small school - do you know of it? Whereabouts do you live and are there any coaches to the school? We will be near Kathikas.

yes we did look at the American Academy it is a very small school We live in paphos its self the school are trying to organise a coach from some of the villages I think many parents take it in turn to do the runs as well. parking is not too bad at the new school although the driving is terrible over here so kids have to have their wits about them when crossing the road there is a zebra crossing on the very quiet road (don't ask!) but i think this needs to be moved then it will be perfect!
