Geranisos Island; inhabited by a few birds and that's about it; from time to time, radio hams go across to the island to broadcast from there.

Hi anastasiaC

The island is called Geronisos and like Lana says is inhabited only by birds at present. However, there has recently been and excavation undertaken on the Island which unearthed evidence of inhabitants who became extinct following an earthquake somewhere around 17BC. A complex was found and a number of cooking utensils and building materials. It would appear that buildings were to be repaired but the earthquake hit first.

It is thought that the island was used by pilgrims who travelled out to worship Apollo and to banquet.

It is a fabulous Island and is awe-inspiring at sunset.

Take a look at some of my Geronisos sunset pictures taken from Agios Gorgios Harbour at: http://www.rent-a-villa-in-paphos.com/beach-sunset-picture.html
