Why Cyprus did not use the VETO

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby tcypriot » Sun Jan 02, 2005 12:14 pm

Cyprus did not veto Turkey, because there's currently no such thing as "Cyprus" other than the geographical name of the island.

No decision can be taken that represents the whole of Cyprus without the consent of the Turkish Cypriot Nation.

So actually the question is wrong and should have been "Why the Greek Occupied Cyprus Republic" did not veto Turkey or "Why the Hellenic Administration of South Cyprus" did not veto Turkey.

So, had Papadopoulos used the veto, it would have been a pseudo veto! Sounds familiar tcypriot?

Veto will not solve anything.

I imagine Turkey will be even less interested in a Cyprus solution if G/Cs put a veto on Turkey. It will cause tension between Turkey a Nato member and Greek Cyprus an EU member.

I think the consequences that would evolve from a veto would be something the south could not stomach.
