Cyprus Eurovision song in French?

Postby Sotos » Tue Jan 09, 2007 12:52 am

Evridiki looks set to represent Cyprus at the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest. Oikotimes recently revealed details of the selection on a site they produce for CyBC.

On her own official website, Evridiki states, "There is no official proposal. I am fan of Eurovision, I have already participated both as vocalist and as a contestant, and I really enjoyed it! I think that with a really good song, I might go again!"

If confirmed, this will be the singer's third Eurovision entry. On both previous occasions she ended in eleventh place. Singing in the semi-final means that she needs to end in the top ten for a change, if CyBC is to qualify to the final. She also appeared on the Eurovision stage three times as a backing singer in the 1980s.

Rumours are flying thick and fast that she plans to perform at least some of the song in French to, hopefully, secure a twelve from France to add to the already secure twelve from Greece. Her fiancé Dimitris Korgialas will be writing the song.

What do you think about the French part?

I know she studied in France and she might be able to pull it off better in french than english. More people will understand it than if it was in Greek. Might be a good move, might end up being a sucky one....:D

How about singing it in Swahili? Everybody will go "What the Fuck??". That way our song will surely be memorable :P

For sure it would be a bad move, it might get a few votes from the French but would end up losing votes from most other countries, can't see people in the UK voting for anything with French lyrics in it somehow...

So the people vote now? Not a committee? When did that change?

Yes, the public telephone or text for their favourites. Turkey always gets a 12 from Gremany. The songs are still rubbish. I can't remember one from the last 10 years.

Hmmm.... I've also always thought it was a bit suss the way the political voting goes. Maybe there is a secret group of people behind the scenes, with the pretence it is all decided by the public. Or maybe I am just getting cynical in my old age!

I think the political part of it might be a bit less obvious or just less in general now that the people are voting and not a "committee" :D

Maybe it would be wise also for her to sing some lyrics in turkish or even invite TC singers to participate on the contest.. She will give a good impression in Europe and in Turkey.
