TC leaders???

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

TC leaders???

Postby Saint Jimmy » Wed Jan 05, 2005 8:34 pm

Can someone (preferably a TC, for obvious reasons!) inform me of who the major political players are in the north?

We know our guys, but, apart from the 'big fish', Talat, Denktash, I only know the others by name, and I'm not really sure as to their key positions on the Cyprus issue. Some background on them would also be greatly appreciated... :D

Thanks

P.S. I know I could go off rushing to websites and stuff, but that would mostly give me the parties' official positions... Keeping in mind that, while DIKO (that's the President's party) is supposed to move somewhere in the Center, officially, in reality, it is waaaay on the Right, at least on the Cyprus issue. On the other hand, DISY, the traditional nationalist party, supported a 'Yes' vote on April 24...

Thanks again

There you can find very useful info concerning some TC political parties, their leaders, declarations and aims.

Unless I m mistaken Mustafa Akinci together with Dr.Ali Erel head the BP, centre-left party, pro-reunification, pro-Annan plan and pro-EU. Not doing too good in the opinion polls lately, last election they gained 12% of the vote, now they are estimated to have 6% of public support. Many of their supporters are now following Talat who is also left of centre-a tactical voting it seems.

Then we have Serdar Denktash who heads the DP, centre-right, wants to be president likes his daddy, in terms of reunification, Annan plan and EU, I m a little confused as to if they are for or against.

And then of course Dr.Dervis Eroglu, educated at Istanbul University, head of UBP, centre-right (I think), against Annan plan, and not too keen on EU.

There are many other parties, Yeni Kibris Party etc,

Personaly comming from the UK I can not help but think we have too many politicians and too many parties in Cyprus (the north particularly but I think the south is not much different?). In the UK the entire population of the Nort could be represented by a single MP in parliament and about 3 would cover the South!

Time to start the pan cypriot 'no tash' party :)

It's central policy will be to reduce the number of MP's to 4 for the whole country and they will not have tashes (1 in 4 will be allowed reasonable sideburns - with reasonable to be determined by distinguised non cypriot judges in case of dispute)

:)

or we could allow somebody else to rule Cyprus, like the US. Who else? They are doing it anyway, that way you would make it easier.

I second that! The 51st state! Yay! And then no Greece and no Turkey, so we can kill each other in peace, just like them!
