PAPADOPOULOS- "SICKENED TURK HATER"

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

How many T/Cs feel Papadopoulos is still a "sickened Turk hater"?

Piratis, I suppose that is a direct reference to the ten years that Clerides was in office??? Clerides and his government belonged to the far right wing, is that what you are saying?

This is very interesting... I would really like to hear how you assert this statement (if it does, indeed, refer to the Clerides administration - as far as I am concerned, it could be a reference to the late ex-president Kyprianou).

Tasos-solution-partition

Postby anlarm » Mon Jan 17, 2005 10:11 am

We all know that USA and UK do not care a bit who controls Cyprus - partly or as a whole- as long as their military (and economic) interests are intact. Turkey's alliance in that respect, is valuable as long as USA/UK can exploit it.
There is a belief among some TCs that the rejectionist policies of Tasos is applauded behind close doors in Anglo-American circles. Not the Annan plan but the rejection of it seems to be leading to a permanent partition of our small island. As a friend recently stated: "south into the EU, north into the USA".
TC people are still awaiting a massive response to their call for peace by GCs. They would be more than satisfied to see a mere 50000 GC turning out at Eleftherias Square shouting: peace cannot be prevented in Cyprus!
Not more than a few hundred managed it so far.

Can i add that as a democratic island did the 'yes' voters not have that democratic choice to choose and not be labeled traitor.
It seems democrasy in the south is only applicable when you side with the tassos administration and otherwise you are a traitor.

I laugh at your so called democrasy.
A likelier version of that scenario would be that both canidates have their strong and their weak points, with only a few things separating them, as is the case with most elections (at least in Cyprus). I would be pretty sure that when things are not clear-cut, black or white (that's... in most cases!), people will tend to go with what they perceive(...) as 'theirs', closer to them, a part of their group.
But that's the thing, all it takes is for 1 of the opposing side who IS qualified to lead for the rest to understand that there is no 'part of their group' that we are all one big group.
I never said it would be easy or that people voting for their religion more than their qualification wouldnt happen, but trust must come into play first.
