Postby brother » Thu Jan 13, 2005 3:21 pm

The Chairman of the Russian Federation Confederation of Trade and Industry Chambers allegedly will visit the occupied part of Cyprus
Turkish Cypriot daily VATAN newspaper (13.01.05), reports under the title "Russia made a second gesture to 'TRNC'", claims that in addition to the support message that the Russian President, Mr Vladimir Putin gave to Turkey, the Chairman of the Russian Federation Confederation of Trade and Industry Chambers, Mr Primakov, also made a gesture. Mr Primakov said to the Turkish Prime Minister Mr Erdogan that he will visit Cyprus to assess the investment opportunities in the occupied part of Cyprus.

The paper reports that Mr Erdogan, in his entourage to Moscow, included the so-called Chairman of the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Industry Mr Salih Tunar, who had a meeting with Mr Primakov. Mr Primakov announced in the meeting his plan to visit the occupied part of Cyprus. Mr Primakov, who also explained that it was the first time that he met with Mr Tunar and that they became friends, announced to Mr Erdogan and Mr Tunar that he can visit the occupied areas to evaluate the investment opportunities. He also explained that he wants particularly to assess the hotels there. On their behalf, Mr Erdogan and Mr Tunar invited the Russian businessmen to made investments in the occupied part of Cyprus. They also expressed their satisfaction for Primakov's visit to the occupied areas of Cyprus.

According to the paper, Mr Primakov, who noted that Russia supports the Annan plan, said: "We, as businessmen, also support it". He added that Russia's support will be on the basis of the UN and said: "We will give the necessary support towards the UN decisions".

Dude, where's that article from? I thought it was from a TC newspaper, but then I noticed it says 'the occupied part of Cyprus'...???

Anyway, about Tassos and his 'veto crap', I agree it's not a real weapon, but then again, thinking back to before the referendum, some people said (and I believed) that partition would have been a fact, if we said 'no', and no more opportunities for a solution would come around, whereas Tassos thought otherwise... Well, we said 'no', and it seems that T-Pap was right, much as I hate to admit it... I'm just saying there might just be a glimpse of light at the end of the tunnel, after all...

I belive
1) may happen if EU refuses to accept Turkey,
2) Annan plan will come back, not exatcly the same of course, but a different vesion of it, Annan 27 for example, or you may want to call it Papadopuolos 12, but the esence of the paln will not change
3) will happen in 2005, (most probably before the half year mark)
4) may happen in 2005 (if it happens it will happen towards teh end of 2005 or most probably in 2006)
5) will never happen,
6) happens all the time, everywhere around the world, by many different people, :)

In international politics, one year is not that big of a time. RoC did not achieve north isolation in one year, as early as 1989 TRNC were able to exprt many things to UK. So isolations will not be lifted immediately anyway.

They will be lifted everyday a little bit if GC side keeps on refusing to negotitate on good intent.
