Somewhere Near Larnaca

Postby lionheart69uk » Sun Mar 11, 2007 8:47 am

We are a couple with a 3yo daughter booked on a flight to Larnaca in late-May but unsure where to spend our two week's holiday. Larnaca itself sounds too developed. We like greenery and sandy beaches with small friendly hotels rather than those massive structures I see in brochures. Also, would anybody recommend a few days across the border in Kyrenia?

First of all there are no borders in Cyprus. There is a cease fire line that separates the free areas from the areas illegally occupied by the Turkish army since the 1974 Turkish invasion.

Larnaca is a town and therefore developed. if you like sandy beaches then you have to go to the Ayia Napa - Protaras area which is a 20 minutes drive for Larnaca. If you want a lot of greenery (in May) and small friendly hotels without crowds then you will have to go to Troodos maintain. Everything is dry on the coast in Cyprus during May, and apart from some trees the only green you will see is the grass at hotels.

GAVCARoCOM, will you stop promoting the occupied areas in here? The guy asked for sandy beaches and you propose to him Kerynia?? Kerynia beaches are rocky and not sandy.

I strongly recommend you go to Gavo Greco (cape Greco) it's probably the most majestic (green/hilly/beach ...all in one) place on the island ranking alongside the Akamas area. Gavo Greco is the South-Eastern tip of Cyprus. Check it out on a map.

Larnaca doesn't have that many huge hotels. Paphos, Limassol and Ayia Napa fall into that category. Thankfully, Larnaca is still quite undeveloped.
