Crime you say?

Well guess what idiot. It's simple market economics - "Supply and Demand"

If demand increases, they can increase their prices because people are willing to pay. That's the bottom line in everything. If people stop paying, they will lower their prices. An airline is only too willing to take money out of people's hands.

And those that don't, can catch a train or boat.

Time to go on that diet .....

The airlines won't be able to introduce a FAT TAX. I don't think so anyway.

It's really funny how some Nanny States like the UK are going into overdrive with political correctness, and yet some deem it fair to discriminate against a FAT person - which could be fat because of other Health Issues such as diabetes. Which obviously means that political correctness and anti discrimination is ok, except when it is deemed to have a monetary value and costs the Skinny Person a couple of dollars; in which case it's ok for the Skinny person to discriminate against the fat person.

But they can consolidate their loads by weighing passengers and get away from Standard Weights. Not very practical though, so the best way is to just introduce a Fuel Excise on each ticket.

Airlines do however charge for a second seat if a passenger is so large and can't fit in 1 seat.

Thanks GIG for bringing this thread back again. :D

So, once again, I was ahead of the curve like ALL things I write here on the CF!

Actually, by weighing passengers with their carry-on at the gate and charging them by the kilo, the major advantage for the airline would be to know exactly how much weight is in the passenger section allowing the airlines to put the maximum cargo into the belly of the aircraft without endangering the safety of the flight. This way the airlines get the max. money from the passengers based on their weight and at the same time, get the most cargo weight onto the plane and collect the max. revenue. A win win for the airlines.
