In not the best move perhaps, Erdogan threatens the financial markets:

Erdogan said the country's financial markets were under attack by domestic and international speculators and urged people to put their money in state rather than private banks.

"If the Istanbul bourse collapses, you (the speculators) will be under the rubble, not Tayyip Erdogan," he told crowds of cheering supporters in the capital Ankara, after a week of the fiercest anti-government demonstrations in years.

Edit: Better version posted by Maximus earlier:

"Those who tried to let the stock exchange collapse: Tayyip Erdoğan has no money there, if it collapses you will also collapse with it. The moment we discover stock exchange speculation, we will ram it down your throat".

That's probably because he doesn't keep his money in Turkey. He's supposed to have eight Swiss bank accounts. :D

“We have heard from two contacts that Erdoğan has eight accounts in Swiss banks; his explanations that his wealth comes from the wedding presents guests gave his son and that a Turkish businessman is paying the educational expenses of all four Erdoğan children in the U.S. purely altruistically are lame,” Eric Edelman, a former U.S. ambassador to Turkey, wrote in a cable sent to Washington on Dec. 30, 2004.

Edelman, who has been outspoken in his criticism of Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party, or AKP, argued that the widespread corruption would be an important factor that could degrade Erdoğan’s ability to run the country.

He doesn't realise that his rhetoric will kill investors confidence and speed the money flight up.

He may not have any money invested in the stock market but this is Turkeys economic health and wealth he is gambling with.

... and in some ways a gamble that's already lost. Markets and currencies can recover but there's no making good the loss from tourism in this holiday season.

Responding to a vote in the European parliament in Strasbourg, Erdoğan added: "I won't recognise the decision that the European Union parliament is going to take about us … Who do you think you are by taking such a decision?"

Erdy on the Euro Parliament resolution...

"How can you take this kind of a decision about Turkey which isn't even an EU member but a candidate," he said.

"You should know your place."

No, he’s not talking about Cyprus.

"It is nothing more than the minority's attempt to dominate the majority. We will not allow it."
