Scots are nothing like the English. Different religion. Different language.

And let not the Scots forget the British National Anthem's famous cry ....

....
And like a torrent rush,
Rebellious Scots to crush.
God save the Queen!

There is no such thing as a Cypriot Nationalist, unless you mean Greek Nationalist from Cyprus. :D

Oh right! The Scots are different even though they live on the same island!

And the Cypriots are Greek even though Cyprus is an isolated island hundreds of kilometers away. My my, I am astounded at your stupidity!!

You leave the subject of Cypriot Nationalists to Cypriots! Ta.

I dare you to name one Cypriot Nationalist, who is not an Australian koala or chicken.

Thousands and growing! 8)

We are going to take over the island so all Greek foreigners better watch out because GD have NOTHING on us as far as racism is concerned! 8)

Can you please explain how they managed to remain different whilst intermingling over centuries whilst the Cypriots are apparently Greek even though Cyprus being an isolated island hundreds of kilometers away.

I suggest you cut the crap about British Colonial History!

It was hardly the evil empire and it did a lot of good around the world and a lot of good in Cyprus too. In fact, one thing is clear to me is the fact we were not ready for the responsibility of being in charge of our island so a few more years under British Rule would have been a much better outcome for our island rather than pissing everything up the wall.

Maybe you should write a book about it? ‘Paphitis Guide to How Brilliant the British Empire Was And All The Brilliant Things It Did and Left Behind’.

It might not get into the History section but it might do well in the Comics section.

I am no supporter of the Empire. I am a nationalist republican.

But cut the crap about it because you sound like a broken record.

This is the opinion of my uk born other half.
Suitably qualified to speak on this subject because he has a Jock accent due to being raised and educated in Scotland. Glasgie to be precise.

Scotland deserves it's independence. However it's very unlikely it will happen. Politics just won't allow that to happen. If it gets a yes vote, he would be very surprised.
Cyprus deserves a lot of things too, but they don't let that happen either.... Go figure.

Classic GiG shameless out of context exaggeration and distortion.

Then again for someone who could claim that the word nigger was routinely used in the UK up to and on in to the 1990's this is not unusual. Distortion, exaggeration and taking things out of their context are just 'tools of her trade'.

And what evidence do you have that it wasn't phased out some 20 years ago? In fact, I know one (very posh) family who use it routinely to this day! Keep making stuff up, Werlitzer.

The N word in print was only tackled not long before people stopped using it in conversation, for example:

Agatha Christie's book Ten Little Niggers was first published in London in 1939 and continued to appear under that title until the early 1980s, when it became And Then There Were None.

In 1999, the British television network ITV broadcast a censored version with each of the twelve utterances of Nigger deleted.

And as for your other stupid link - which IGNORES the 6th verse that includes those lines, then it demonstrates your utter rush to contradict without any thought, as usual.

Never mind stupid Turkish-availability internet sites - here's the BBC on the verse, from some years back on a debate that it should be changed ...

Some of the lyric to the UK national anthem God Save the Queen may change to make them less offensive in Scotland, a government adviser says.
The sixth verse of the song urges God to help 17th Century commander Marshal Wade "crush" the "rebellious Scots".

Ex-Attorney General Lord Goldsmith, who is advising Gordon Brown on citizenship, said a "number of people" had raised concerns over the lyric.

People had to look at "different ways of saying" what links the UK, he added.

The little-known and even less-sung sixth verse of God Save the Queen implores God to come to the aid of Marshal George Wade, who was sent to quell rebellious Scottish highlanders in the wake of the Jacobite rising of 1715.

It says: "May he sedition hush, And like a torrent rush, Rebellious Scots to crush."

Lord grant that Marshal Wade
May by thy mighty aid
Victory bring.
May he sedition hush,
And like a torrent rush,
Rebellious Scots to crush.

God save the Queen!
God Save the Queen

Verse six

Lord Goldsmith, who stepped down as attorney general when Tony Blair left Downing Street in June, is conducting a review on the future of Britishness and citizenship.

He told BBC Two's The Daily Politics: "Quite a number of people have raised the issue of the national anthem in a number of ways.

"I think the national anthem is an important part of our national tradition."

He added: "But the review is about different ways of sharing our tradition and national identity...

"What we have to look at is different ways of saying what it is that links the country together."

Lord Goldsmith said he had not yet decided whether to recommend altering the sixth verse of the national anthem.
