You're probably referring to the killing of a soldier near the Dhekelia SBA, on the 8th of September 1996. As far as I remember the SBA police report was not disclosed, and the GC side was insisting that no GC had anything to do with the incident. God knows what happened that night…
1996 was probably one of the most dangerous years after 1974 in Cyprus. On January 31st we had the Imia incident, which was reflected in Cyprus too. In August we had the events in Dherynia, in September we had the aforementioned event, and in October another GC civilian was shot in the buffer zone.
