your passport has been stamped by the US? thats very weird. if they do not recognize trnc then they shouldnt recognize your passport justl ike you cannot enter the us with a cuban passport.

interesting...

Hate to generalise but having had the 'pleasure' of meeting US customs officials, I highly doubt they even know that TRNC isn't recognised... Cuba maybe, but TRNC, they probably think it's somewhere in China...

One of my Canadian friends, when telling her about my Ph.D. said (and I quote this word for word)...

"... but why the interest in South Pacific islands?"

Bless her, she did grow up in the US, so I clear Canada on that charge...

True story (slightly off-topic, but I hope the Administrator will find it in his heart to forgive the misdemeanour):
In the U.S. last summer, me and a couple of friends were sitting around doing nothing. We got talking with this American guy, who claimed to play professional basketball in the NBA (so us wanting to talk to him makes a lot of sense). At some point he asked where we are from. So we say Cyprus. He nods, as if he knows what Cyprus is, much less where it is, and the friend asks the question begging to be asked: 'Do you know where Cyprus is?'
The guy immediately answers 'Yeah, sure...' but doesn't elaborate. So the friend puts him through the acid test: 'It's right next to China, on the left'. The guy concurred with a nod and said 'Yeah, yeah, I know'.

turkcyp wrote:"Cyprus huh, that is in Florida right?" (There are Cypress trees all around Florida and a city called Cypress in Florida I think)

I got the same response but they thought I was from Lousiana as I think there's a city named Cypress in Lousiana :-)

"Cyprus huh, that is in Florida right?"

Come on. The Americans might suck in world geography, but they are not that stupid.
I mean your passports do not only say "Cyprus" right? What about the "Turkish" part?

Those people at customs know how the USA passport looks like. It clearly says "United States of America" on it. If they really thought you were from some place of the US then they would pass you from customs like they pass US citizens, without the need of any visa or other document.

If they really play stupid when you show them your passports, then this is the directions they got.

Perhaps they confuse it with Turks of Caos islands or something like that.
