Boomerang.Turks out of Cyprus,if you must ok.I think it goes a little further than this with this group.
Sport and politics don't go well together,we have had it in the Uk in the past and it always backfires.

It is in the Hellenic psyche to bring politics into every aspect of life.

You cannot change our culture Purdey.

We have suffered devastating consequences from the Turks, it is not easy to turn a blind eye .....

Pudrey, some things for you to note:

1) Baghdatis was invited to a private party by those who supported him during his game, and naturally he accepted. Unless you expected him to make a background check on everybody that would attend the party first?

2) Baghdatis at no point chants anything wrong. I don't know and I don't care what some others said. What I care is what our athelete said and there was nothing wrong with it. Thats why the Turks created animations to literally put words in his mouth.

3) Demanding the liberation of your country is not just "politics".

4) It was a private party. Everybody was free to say what he wanted. The ones who tried to politicize the event are those who one whole year later tried to put words in the mouth of our athlete and made accusations against him, hoping that in this way they could affect his performance.

Marcos is as clean as it gets. Who are the racists are exactly those that hate everything Greek, and envy the Greek and Cypriot achievements to such a degree that they created this whole situation.

Its one thing to say it while you are playing sport and another to voice your opinion at a party...

Markos is entitle to voice his concern outside of sports...He is much of a human as evryone here with the same concerns...

They are only trying to silence him, thus depriving him of his freedom of speech outside of sport...

Fascism at its best...what else can you expect out of a fascist state...a state that wants to enter the EU...yeah one day but maybe in a couple of lifetimes...

Freedom of speech is the concept of being able to speak freely without censorship. The right to freedom of speech is guaranteed under international law through numerous human rights instruments, notably under Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights, although implementation remains lacking in many countries, notably "turkey". The synonymous term freedom of expression is sometimes preferred, since the right is not confined to verbal speech but is understood to protect any act of seeking, receiving and imparting information or ideas, regardless of the medium used.

Someone would well to point this out to a wannabe EU fascist country...

Yes,I agree Baghdatis has been careful with what he has said, but this is not a stupid man.He has an opportunity to say no to the invite to the party. He understands full well who is inviting him and there agenda, and the media will be watching his every move.
We can all say it is our private life, but this man is a sportsman,an idol of the young, sponsered by large corporations. He has made a silly mistake, their is no room in sport for politics.
Please, also get rid of his manager.Baghdatis lost to Hewitt and the manager complained it was because of the media and public intrusion on the players life, not very sporting is it.
By the way I have seen him play live, and he is a brilliant tennis player.
