We all imagine what the people we talk to on this forum look like in real life and I have been surprised by some of the pictures that have been posted here, by how different they are to what I thought. Not in any bad way but just different. I have an image of two women on this forum and they are Phoenix and Rafealla........This is it.......Sorry but I can't help it.

Phoenix, you are wrong about promotions.Yes there were promotions but it was available to those who were qualified to fill the posts.

Did you say you spent thirty years in the UK,please tell us learnt something,or are you one of those people who use a country and then abuse it.Please stay in Paphos,we do not need people like yourself in the UK.

Pass rates are relative ......

Why do you not need people like me in the UK? How am I different to any other Brit?

Have you noticed the title of this thread?

Have you commented on the author's thread topic? .... or do you find what Turkish-forumers say, is always perfectly acceptable?

What a lot of rubbish!

I have never associated with Polytechnics, but I had friends who qualified alongside myself, who did take jobs with them, and some where promoted to Professor status with only half a dozen publications to their name.

And when the Turks were killing millions to create their empire it was not imperialism?

Sotos
Yes, it seems to me that the creation of any empire, by definition, entails some kind of imperialism. The Ottoman empire was no different in that general respect (though as I've argued before, the Ottoman empire was not a Turkish empire any more than the British empire was English). But if you are talking about the creation of the republic - as I was - then I don't think 'imperialism' is the accurate description. Something more like 'nationalism' is more accurate; and yes, like virtually every other nation-building politics of the time hundreds of thousands, indeed millions, died or were killed.

But you can also have anti-imperialist imperialism, such as the USA. The greatest, longest-standing and ultimately succesful foe of the British empire was the USA ... between whom there was never a war (apart from a little skirmish in 1812, and the original war of independence).

I see very few racist colonial types on this forum,in fact the vast majority support Cyprus and have invested heavily in the country.I think you Sir have a problem with dwelling in the past.
As for British attacking Cypriots it is 50-50,you cannot play the victim all of the time!!!!

When we were very keen to have the bases??? Have you been dreaming about this? The bases where forced on us and this is our island. So who the fuck are you to tell us that "we can not have it our way" in our own island?

You are a good example of the racist colonial type I was talking about.

Here's a question for our impatial moderator. What do you think would happen if you kicked the British off the bases.
What would happen to the tourist industry.
What would happen to the Ex pat and British community.
What would Europe say.
What would your neighbours say.
What would happen to the Cypriot economy.
What would happen to Cyprus.
I think if your Government were serious about kicking the British out it would have happened by now, don't you?

Your reply - which didn't answer my question - just confirms that you literally do not know what you are talking about. Promotion of polytechnic staff to professor never hand anything to do with eligibility for research grants. And as for 'assessments' and RAE it is just bollocks. That in turn has got bugger all to do with pass rates. You're making it up.

Purdey is right.

I didn't hear much shouting about the bases when we were evacuating Cypriots to England, did you?
If you are so much against the bases go and demonstrate out side of the gates.Don't loose your temper and resort to bad language on a internet site.
Me racist colonial type No,I have put to much money into Cypriots pockets in the UK and Cyprus to be labelled anti Cypriot...
