CHRISTIAN UDE VISITS LEFKOSA(Nicosia) TRNC MAYOR CEMAL BULUTOGLULARI

Munih Mayor Christian Ude is in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus as guest of the Lefkosa Mayor Cemal Bulutoglulari.

Speaking at Ercan Airport, Mr. Ude said that he had been following the Cyprus issue in his own country and during his visit he wanted to learn the latest stage reached on the Cyprus issue.
He noted that he had come to northern Cyprus to attend the inauguration of a park in the capital Lefkosa and said that parks were an indication about the stage the capitals had reached.

Explaining that his wife’s art exhibition was traveling from Vienna, Zagreb, Athens and now to Lefkosa, Mr. Ude pointed to the importance of cultural development between countries.

‘Cultural events like this one would help the people builder closer ties and learn more about Northern Cyprus’, he added.

Mayor of Lefkosa Cemal Bulutoglulari for his part noted that despite efforts by the Greek Cypriot administration to prevent Mr. Ude from coming to Northern Cyprus, Mr. Ude has successfully landed at Ercan airport.

‘I thank you for coming to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus for a second time’, he added.

Mr. Bulutoglulari said ‘we need brave mayors like Christian Ude in order to be able to overcome the international embargoes imposed against the Turkish Cypriot people’.

The Mayor of Germany’s Munich city- Christian Ude,continuing his contacts in the Northern Cyprus.

Today the German Mayor came together with Prime Minister Ferdi Sabit Soyer and the Mayor of Lefkosa Cemal Bulutoglulari respectively.

In the afternoon, Christian Ude will watch a music concert at Buyuk Han and will then open his wife’s art exhibition called the ‘Open Air’ which has already been displayed in Vienna, Zagreb and Athens.

His programme also includes the inauguration ceremony of a park in Gocmenkoy and the poetry night to be held at the Cyprus Turkish Journalists’ Union in the evening.

Yesterday, Mr Ude attended the opening of the first Lefkosa Marathon organized by the Lefkosa Turkish Municipality and the Lefkosa City Club.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Lefkosa Mayor Bulutoglulari said he would ask for Mr Ude’s support to make this marathon turn into an international one.

Mr Ude in response expressed the hope that his attendance in the organization will help it gain an international identity.

Today the German Mayor came together with Prime Minister Ferdi Sabit Soyer and the Mayor of Lefkosa Cemal Bulutoglulari respectively.

Speaking during his meeting with the Prime Minister, Mr Ude pointed to yesterday’s Alevite-Bektashi Lokma event and said he was happy to see that Alevite rights were respected in North Cyprus.

He stressed that this will create sympathy in the European Union and North Cyprus has the chance to play the role of a bridge among religions.
Referring to his observations on universities and hotels in the TRNC, the German Mayor said he has observed the economic development in the country.

On the Cyprus issue, he said making a joint weather broadcast only will not be enough.

In response, Prime Minister Soyer said even a jointly prepared weather forecast will make the Turkish Cypriot side happy, but added that the Greek Cypriot side is avoiding cooperation with the Turkish Cypriot side.

Mr Soyer referred to the development in the university sector in the TRNC and said the Greek Cypriot Administration does not even show any interest towards establishing cooperation in the exchange of academic staff and students.

Stressing that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is a secular and democratic country and that everybody has the right to worshipping in his own religion, Soyer described the major goal as the solution of the Cyprus problem on the basis of the UN parameters.

The Premier implied that the most beautiful award will be the unification of Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots under a federal roof and their equal existence within the EU.

Expressing his desire towards making the right use of time, Soyer gave a watch made of the traditional Cypriot art- Lefkara to Mr Ude as a gift.

News from the Northern Cyprus...............

President Mehmet Ali Talat has said that one of the biggest problems being experienced in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is the production of goods and its promotion but drew attention to the fact that the source of the problem is the continuation of the Cyprus issue.

Speaking during an event yesterday, the President evaluated the economic situation in Cyprus and the Cyprus problem.

Pointing to the importance of Turkey’s support, Turkish Cypriot people’s support, NGO’s and the states support during the Cyprus negotiations process President Talat said the negotiations process was not going to be an easy one.

Noting that Turkey playing an active role in the efforts to find a solution to the Cyprus problem had made an impact in Turkey becoming a non permanent member of the UN Security Council, President Talat reiterated the importance of Turkey’s, Turkish Cypriots, societies and the states support during the negotiations process in Cyprus.

He explained that some painful developments might happen towards the end of the negotiations process when the give and take process begins.

The president stressed that ‘if our gains are more than our losses then it means we have succeeded.’

Referring to economic issues the President explained that Turkey had aided its economy by privatizing its air and sea ports.

Talat said ‘if we could privatize the Gazimagosa seaport we could not find customers. This port is not banned by the international community but because of the Greek Cypriot sides nagging and the confusion its created unfortunately the port isn’t working at is full capacity’

According to statement issued by the Australian High Commission, the Australian Foreign Minister will be expressing his country’s support to the ongoing negotiations process.

During his stay, the Australian Minister will be meeting with the UN Secretary General’s Special Representative to Cyprus-UNFICYP Chief of Mission Taye Brook-Zerihoun.

News from Northern Cyprus

`TURKISH CYPRIOTS WILL NEVER ACCEPT AN IMPOSED SOLUTION
In his weekly press briefing, the Presidential Spokesperson Hasan Ercakica stressed that the Turkish Cypriot side is very much disturbed to see that whatever discussed during negotiations between the two leaders keep leaking into the Greek Cypriot press.

He said the issue will be brought to the attention of Greek Cypriot officials during the next Talat-Christofias meeting which is scheduled to take place on 3rd November and some proposals might also be presented to them.

Pointing out that the Greek Cypriot side had made a proposal on the executive body during last Talat-Christofias meeting, Ercakica said the Turkish Cypriot side continues working on its responding proposal which is planned to be presented during next meeting.

Touching upon the Greek Cypriot attempts aimed at preventing the North Cyprus leg of the Australian Foreign Minister Stephen Smith’s Cyprus visit, the Spokesperson defined these attempts as a sign that Mr Christofias wants to maintain previous Greek Cypriot policies.

`However Mr Smith was received by President Talat today` he added.

Accusing the Greek Cypriot side of trying to impose its own version of settlement over Turkish Cypriots by following a policy based on the international isolation of Turkish Cypriots, Ercakica said the Greek Cypriot side has no chance at all in achieving this as the Turkish Cypriot side will no way accept an imposed solution which ignores determined principles.

The Presidential Spokesperson also informed that the President’s Special Advisor for Negotiations Ozdil Nami had the opportunity to meet Smith and explain him the Turkish Cypriot stance during an event held last night.

Unfortunately we can now only accept the standard EU regulation cucumber which is of much smaller length and girth. Unlike our friend lovernomore who seems to enjoy the freedom of utilising the larger irregular shaped cucmbers in the occupied areas for his enjoyment.
