That doesn't prove anything. Nowhere does it say they learnt to read and write from the Cypriots. Apparently, the Cypriots learnt to read and write from the Minoans, so it is them you ought to really be thanking. The alphabet referred to I presume is the Greek one.

MYCENAEAN GREEK - LINEAR B - 13TH BUT PERHAPS AS EARLY AS 15TH CENTURY BC

CYPRIOT SYLLABARY USED TO WRITE GREEK - 11TH TO 4TH CENTURY BC
The Greeks were the first Europeans to learn to write with an alphabet
Says it all really

Sure they did...

Strangely, the Greeks tried writing once before. Between 1500 and 1200 BCE, the Mycenaeans, an early tribe of Greeks, has adapted the Minoan syllabary as Linear B to write an early form of Greek. However, the syllabary was not well suited to write Greek, and leaves many modern scholars scratching their heads trying to figure out the exact pronunciation of Mycenaean words. The alphabet, on the other hand, allowed more precise record of the sounds in the language.

It's of no consequence whether a language is phonetic or not. To this day Standardised English is one of the least phonetic with graphemes representing all sorts, bar comprehensible pronunciation ... but it is spoken by over a Billion people ...

Oh no! :(

"According to tradition, Greek settlers colonized Cyprus around the 12th century BCE, and they likely adopted the Cypro-Minoan script for their own use."

So, did you come to Cyprus and receive an education or not? You'll have to make your minds up guys...

No, the Greeks educated the Cypriots on how to use the script to read and write Greek. AND the script derived from the Minoans, not the Cypriots!

"they (being the Greeks) adopted the script for THEIR OWN USE".

(paraphrased).

The list is endless no matter if its modern or ancient Greek discoveries. What can our Turkish amigos bring to the table? What contributions have ottomans or modern turks done for the world? I want to hear their voices in this discussion too

But that’s not what the quote in AncientScripts is saying little Simon… :(

And is the language we call today “Greek” really a Greek language or is that what the Mycenaeans found and adopted when they came to Cyprus along with its alphabet??? Image

This is where it starts to get interesting… let the archaeologists press on with their work!
