Turkey bans another Internet site
Istanbul Bianet (19.10.09) reported the following:
“Access has been banned to the expatriates.com website which provides information and networking services for people constantly living abroad. The decision was taken by the Telecommunication Communication Presidency for reasons of ‘administrative measures’.

The website www.expatriates.com was banned under article 5651 of the Act on Internet Crimes. The website serves as a source of information and networking services for expatriates in Turkey and all over the world.

Internet users in Turkey who want to access the site encounter the following announcement by the Telecommunications Communication Presidency (TIB): ‘ADMINISTRATIVE MEASURES have been applied to this internet site (expatirates.com) by the decision of the Telecommunications Communication Presidency dated 23.06.2009, no. 421.02.02.2009-179234 as a result of technical inspection and legal evaluation of index crimes regarding law article 5651’.

Ban on website for foreigners
Bianet was informed by an internet user about the censorship, explaining the site as follows, ‘I used the site to look for a Turkish teacher for my child for instance, there are many ads of private Turkish teachers. Foreigners living in Turkey can also advertise for a car with an ‘M’ plate (special tax conditions for foreigners). There are advertisements on an international scope, not only within the borders of Turkey. The most frequently used language of the site is English’.

Access to MySpace re-opened, Last FM still blocked
On 19 September access was blocked to MySpace and Last FM, two of the world's largest websites for social networking and music sharing, after a complaint from the Association of Interconnected Ownership Right Phonogram Producers (MUYAP). The Turkish site AkkilliTV.com was censored on the same day.

Access to MySpace has been re-opened after an agreement on copyright issues. LastFM.com is still blocked.
In the beginning of this month access was also blocked to LGBT social networking websites haydigayri.com, gabile.com and shemaleturk.com on the grounds of ‘index crimes’.”

Turkey must be the only country which bans the most innocent websites, even the ones most likely to expound freedom of speech ...

What a joke for an "aspiring" progressive nation!

They banned British scientific websites, not long ago .......

Big deal!

Have you bothered to check what the US and Australia are doing with their Internet access, or is Turkey the only country you’re ever worried about?

Here you go peanut head...

Check this out from 2002…

Greek govt bans all computer games

The government of Greece is making heroic efforts to humiliate the nation in front of the entire world, by banning all electronic games. That's right; something as innocent as playing computer chess on your laptop in a hotel lobby is now a crime with penalties of up to three months in stir and a fine of 10,000 euros.

Here’s another…

Greece Bans Cell Phone Games

Greece has enacted a law that appears to make the playing of games in cell phones illegal. According to a report in the Greek newspaper Kathimerini, "The police will be responsible for catching offenders, who will face fines of 5,000 to 75,000 euros and imprisonment of one to 12 months. The blanket ban was decided in February after the government admitted it was incapable of distinguishing innocuous video games from illegal gambling machines."

Greece bans Google's Street View

Google's Street View function has been banned in Greece by an official privacy organisation until the internet giant can give more safeguards for personal privacy.

The Greek Data Protection Authority has demanded more clarification from Google on how the company will store, process and protect the original images used for the online service.

Took me 5 minutes to find these!

In future, if you plan to start a thread make sure it’s worth it and always start with Greece first… just in case!

Well it seems that the Chinese authorities are blocking access to a section of a well known website for translators where people do nothing more sinister than help one another with terminological queries.

We ban child pornography sites. No wonder you don't like Australia. Your such a weirdo.... :? :?

Furthermore, the Australian Government has not yet ratified any proposed legislation as it is unable to do so because the Labour Party does not have a majority in the Senate and the Liberal Party is opposing any form of internet censorship.

The ACMA only has a blacklist of various child pornography, euthanasia, and satanic sites it wants to censor, but the legislation will not pass unless the laws are watered down or amended.

n 2008, the Australian Labor Party introduced a policy of mandatory Internet filtering for all Australians. While the policy has not yet come into force, it has generated substantial opposition, with only a few groups in support. The Labor Party does not have enough votes in the Senate to enact any legislation to support the filter, so that the filter has "effectively been scuttled" unless the government is able to implement the filter by other means.[1][2]

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) maintains a blacklist, since leaked,[3] of websites which would form the basis for the mandatory filter. It has issued a take-down notice and threatened fines of $11,000 per day to at least one website hosted in Australia which contained a link to material on this blacklist.[4]
