I am neither little, nor a fascist, nor giving lectures, one of you were lying.

He claims TCs you claim Turks, not that can give ahoot, but get your lies straight before you spread them.

To me Birk, is just another TC trying to get things his way, but don't worry your little head, we know where you stand.

You missed Bananiot's point all together,B25..He was implying that to the GCs at the time, lining up to witness the massacre, those to be slaughtered were just "Turks",including my cousins, the 3 TC students..

And I guess those 500 TCs landed there to have a picnic and not to kill people?

Piratis, they were student in their early 20s studying in Turkey...when the 63 troubles began they thought they should get back to help their community survive what they thought was going to be an all out attack to wipe off the TCs...Turkish army gave them all a 2 week course in using firearms, and dumped them on this little enclave which was surrounded by the GC regulars and irregular (i have no midea who they were) in no time...They had no idea what they were doing...But soon found out they were mistakenly believed to be the avantgard of a Turkish military operation...Some were killed in the skirmishes, and all were in grave danger of starvation for the whole duration...This was the most bizarre chapter of the 63-74 period...People should know what really happened, dont you think???Instead of thinking that Turkey just wanted some target practice...But I suspect nothing will dent the armour of hatred and bitterness in certain people here... :(

What Turkey and TCs wanted was the partition of Cyprus. Do you deny this?

If the GCs are not willing to come to terms with this period,if they keep sweeping it under the carpet,if they keep addressing Cyprus problem simply as one side trying to rob the other of property and illegal gains,we will NEVER get anywhere...This is the conclusion I have come to after long and careful consideration...The GC are in total denial as to the root cause of the TC mistrust...They can only see the pain and sufering of their own after 74,turning a blind eye to the TC pain and suffering before that time...
Please try to get them to take a hard look at themselves, find the courage to admit their part in this mess, then we might get somewhere...
Jews are happy to return to Germany now because they feel perfectly safe...The German people have disowned and repudiated Hitler and his Nazi regime..They have acknowledged the wrongs done, provided compensation, and swore never such attrocities would take place...What steps has the ROC taken to foster trust and understanding between the communities? What steps to ease the fear and mistrust? The person who was the archenemy, the symbol for oppression for the TCs (for his role in the Akritas plan etc) was President of the ROC for over 5 years...What message do you think that gave to the TCs...???? No amount of logical or economical or political appeal or coersion will equal one simple emotional appeal backed by tangible measures to increase the respect and trust between communities...Only then will the TCs consider walking in the sun without a hat and sunscreen...This is not what I want, but it is what I see. Time for all to get out of their comfortable bunkers and face the realities in Cyprus...Throwing insults like "cowards,thieves,whatever..." will only work to drive the TCs further away... Trying to goad or shame the TCs to give up what they see is their hard won protection of Turkey will only backfire...I am suprised people intelligent enough to use this forum cannot see this simple fact... :( :(

BirKibrisli, many thanks for your very honest view on the issues we are discussing. I mean no disrespect in this response whatsoever, but Birkibrisli I'm afraid your views are those of an old man, a man who looks backwards to the times when yes, there was conflict and killing, and not forwards (after all, with age should come wisdom!). And, you know, maybe your views are understandable for your generation, but times have moved on, and I really feel that you need to look ahead for the best opportunities for future TC generations. Will this be in the isolated and illegal north under the overwhelming influence of Turkey (itself politically isolated from Europe), or with their fellow Cypriots within the European Union with all the advantages, including security, that would bring?

Talisker, it has nothing to do with 'his (BK) generation'. I am slightly older than BK. I lived through the travails of Cyprus. I remember and have been a first hand eyewitness to a lot of 'nastiness' from both communities. Yet I do not fear the Greek Cypriots and I would not hesistate to live among my Greek Cypriot compatriots.
However, BK does make one valid point - that of each 'community' owning up to their own shortcomings in the event that led up to the 'Cyprus Problem'. The politicians should help with this 'reconciliation' and the militants on both sides should stfu.

What does my job have to do with my political views? Only a desturbed person can connect the two, but I think you are just a fascist. What does the Annan plan have to do with your discussion with Birkibrisli?

Okay then, according to your fascist outlook, the President of Greece, George Papandreou, who vociferously supported the UN brokered plan, should get a life too, or do you also pity the Greek people?

Deniz, in both communities there were warlords who agitated people to use force in order to realise their political agentas. In the Greek Cypriot community, for which I can speak, we had the "organisation" which was led by Yiorgadjis and Papadopoulos and some private armies, led by Sampson and Lyssarides. All of them were under the umbrella of Makarios. They committed many attrocities which were later matched by EOKA B.

However, both communities harboured nice mannered, gentle people who had the good of Cyprus at the centre of their thoughts. These people rejected nationalism and paid a hefty price for their stated values, pursued and murdered by those with a nationalist agenda or forced to emigrate to far away lands. These true Cypriots are still fighting away for the salvation of Cyprus but the bitch is in heat again. The nationalists are lifting their head again and will do everything to prevent the present round of talks from reaching a happy end. Hand in hand, GC and TC nationalists are doing everything in their power to undo any good that may result from the talks. Most probably the stealing Papadopoulois corpse has to do with these beasts too.

Yes I know Bananiot. The same was with the Turkish Cypriots too. We are all familiar with their m.o.

I have stayed out of this thread , after all we covered this many times in the past. One has to be blind of political realities not to fully understand that both the G/C extremists and the T/C extremists committed ghastly acts against our Cypriot people. The T/C extremists encouraged and spurned on by Turkey wanted partition .The G/C extremists denied the T/Cs the right to call this island theirs too and wanted the island to become part of their perceived motherland , Greece.
The hatred was rampant , the T/Cs were commonly referred to as VROMOTOURCHI and the G/Cs as GIAVOURS !!
Those responsible for all the killing and the division of our island were none other that these so called "patriots" , the lovers of the two foreign countries , the insecure Cypriots who can only feel as real people by attaching themselves either to Turkey or Greece.
Bir , is a true Cypriot , his recollection of events is not a fabricated story a figment of his imagination .
Unless we all accept that grave errors were committed by both sides we shall never reunite.
Turkey must also understand that right now she is occupying a part of Cyprus and that a very large number of indigenous T/Cs are reacting unfavourably. Filling up the place with settlers and denying the T/Cs their true identity is not conducive to the process of finding and agreeing to a solution. The entire world considers Turkey to be an occupying power , enough of the nonsense that she " intervened" and not invaded. Whatever rights she had she has abused such rights by her continual occupation and her determination to annexe the occupied parts of Cyprus. She must realize that future generations will be sufficiently influenced by her actions and consistently reacting to her occupation.
The guarantor power requirement must never be recognized as her right , the Cypriot people will reject it and the continuation of the occupation will carry on stoking up future conflict.
The G/C extremists who see Cyprus not as an independent nation on its own but as a part of Greece will bring fresh destruction and misery to the Cypriot people.
LONG LIVE THE ROC A GOVERNMENT THAT MUST STRIVE FOR TOTAL INDEPENDENCE FOR ALL ITS PEOPLE.

I was questioning your warped mind bananiot...

and here we are you going down the fascist road...anyone that has an opinion contrary to yours must be a fascist...listen you moron, you do not know me from a bar of soap...

I live in a multiculture society so how can I be a fascist...I am not married to a gc or a greek, my greek reading and writing is limited to the extend of extinction, apart from the Cyprus dialect and now this is gone up shit creek, with dad passing away a couple of months ago, my daughters do not speak greek or dialect and yet the misfit that you are, you labelled me a fascist...see how flawed your mind is bananiot...so if your mind is flawed then I pity the kids you teach...

I read your posts and I get the feeling you have a walnut size of a brain...the annan plan not only gifted your/ours homeland to turkey but the UK got a nice slice out of it...but for you it was a made plan made in heaven...

now coming back to greece...anything greece did for the cypriots was for self interests...you show me something they did that was good for cyprus...I will even say the reason they got us in the EU was for simply trying to wash their hands from the fuck up and secondly as a back up, read 2 votes within the EU...so mentioning greece to me has no relevance...unfortunately for you I am a cypriot...and I look after the cyprus interest...

re bizelli not only i do business with turks, but i socialize with turks...I love my iskander...once a month like clockwork...but to you I am a fascist...get a life bananiot...

please do me a favour...you and thinking are a non event...

So, boomerang, you question my professional ability as a teacher, solely on how I voted in a referendum in 2004, where we were supposedly asked to voted democratically, any way we wanted?

I wish you a good and prosperous and healthy life for you and your family, but your way of thinking oozes fascism. Sorry!
