Hi H

That's an easy one: I call a man, come to think of it, that's a pretty standard reply from me!

Try a more diffcult question...

IF you have to pay Import Duty on your car it would be:

£13,700 x 4/10 = £5,480 x 1.15 (VAT) = £6302

(£13,700 is the normal Duty, 4/10 as your vehicle is 6 years old and Duty is subject to a 10 year straight line depreciation), VAT is 15%.

Registration will be £1,500 and road tax about £260 ish.

Hi svetlana,

could you tell us how you arrived at the £13,700 duty ? Is there a table showing duty to engine size ?

I want to bring my car, it is an 1800cc and about 7 years old. Its not worth much in the UK, but she still goes very well. Could you tell me what sort of duty i wil have to pay. I will be moving to cyprus i am from cypriot origin (mum and dad born here) . I ready the procedure and the amount to info required is incredible, in fact i'm sure it was design to scare people from doing it.

anyway any info waould be appreciated.

thanks

Saloon & 4 x 4
0-1450cc £0.50 per cc
1450-1650cc £0.85 per cc
1650-2050cc £2.70 per cc
2050-2250cc £2.85 per cc
2250-2650cc £5.50 per cc
2650cc & over £8.00 per cc

Double-cab
All charged at £.050 per cc

Vans
0-1450cc £0.50 per cc
1450-1650cc £0.10 per cc
1650-2050cc £0.75 per cc
2050-2250cc £0.75 per cc
2250-2650cc £0.75 per cc
2650cc & over £1.00 per cc

So a saloon with a 3l engine would be charged duty at CY£24,000

Hi pantheman

If you are not going to work here then you will pay no duty; if you are I am not sure of the situation - you may not have to paqy any Duty if you have owned it for 6 months+ and VAT has been paid in an EU State.

If you do have to pay Duty there is a penalty on older cars (3+ years old)

Quite frankly, if the car is 7 years old and not worth much, why take the risk? :?

You could be lucky and get it over for no cost (apart from the shipping cost which must be £500).

You could be unlucky and spend the first four weeks in Cyprus trying to get paperwork together to get the thing out of customs. :(

Dump the car in the UK and buy another here.

This has to be the most useful forum.

I will be working when i get here (anyone offer me a job???) I will think about what to do with the car.

Thanks again.
