Hi Maggie and Kevin,

I live in Limassol and can answer some of your questions:

The hotel you mention does not have a good reputation but forgive me if I ask the question.....Was this a late booking or maybe a "cheap deal?".

If either of these then you will not get much in the way of help when you contact the travel company. However, if once you are in the hotel you are not satified then complain like hell to the tour rep. But you must remember this is an aprtment/hotel and not a fully fledged hotel. With 3 stars only it is just what it says. In Cyprus most of the "good" hotels are at least 4 star.

With regard to the location you are in the middle of what we call "The tourist area" which is just what it is. Very nice beaches, lots of clubs, bars, eateries etc etc etc. A very busy area especially at this time of year.

If you have booked room only or B and B then you can eat outside the hotel very cheaply and well. Reckon C£10 to 15 per head including drinks. Over that and you are paying too much.

With regard to Naturist beaches........sorry no chance....Topless is allowed but frowned upon in some areas......most tourist beaches no problem.

Some of the tours are Ok but seem to be a little expensive. Maybe hire a car.....check that you have insurance and CDW and proper receipt. A mid range car with A/C which you will need is about C£20 to 25 a day.

The best tour I know is the catamaran that sails out of Limassol port, most evenings with dancing and food/drink and is good value. They also do day trips.

We drive on the same side as in UK so no worry there.

If you like clubbing ask around as there are several in the area with varying reputations and prices. Hippodrome used to be good but dont know latest.

There is little crime here and as you are with Kevin you should not attract any probs re men etc .

hope this answers some questions....have a great time. If you have any more questions either forum or pm and I will see if I can help.

Regards
Howard

PS I asked the wife if I could offer my pool for naturist enthusiasts but she said no...............damn it !!!!

Hi Howard,

welcome to the forum. Only few posts but you have already proofed being a valuable member.
As you might notice when browsing a bit more through the sections not really many of the usual contributors here are actually living in Cyprus, even though everyone has some connection to the island. Otherwise we wouldn't be here I guess.
So more input from people on the spot is highly appreciated.
Hope to see you more often around. :-)

Thanks for that.

Happy to help if I can as I am aware that lots of information gets corrupted across the waves etc .

Things change daily with regard to many issues especially now we are coming to terms with the EU.......(Do I really believe my own words here?)

Unfortunately the nature of my work ( am retired but you would never believe it) particularly next year will have me away for several months. Even in September this year I will be away for 5 weeks so expect large gaps in my posts.

Whilst I am here I will try my best to enhance what seems to be an very good site.......

regards

Like most tourist destinations there are many people who will take the "you know what out of tourists".I can suffer the same fate.

Even living here I am seen as a tourist when I walk into shops or taxi. My philosophy is.....
if it does not have a price dont buy it....

If the taxi has no meter dont use it.

if it has a meter make sure he resets it

they sometimes hide the meters....ask to see it.

Or get a quote before you use the taxi.

In tourist areas, of course the price goes up but here are one or two prices for everyday items..

Small water.....50c
large water.....75c max
taxi...tourist area to limassol centre...£3 to 4
Small coke/pepsi 65c
english cigs....B and H £2.70
Cyprus senior Service/Rothmans....£1.70
Ice creams or ice lollies.......70 to £1
If you are on a beach the max price allowed for sun bed or umbrella is C£1.25

restaurents by law must have a price list....including taxes

If in doubt shop around.

this is actually a cheap island but like any where else......Buyer beware.

Plan your trip well. Go on some tours of the wineries I always like to go straight to the wineries to get zonked on 1.50 Cyp Pound Plonk. Make sure you go to a winery with its own stomach pump.I always do!
