Buying on Mesogios 11 - Protaras

Postby Caroline06 » Thu Jul 28, 2005 1:40 pm

I'm trying to find other people who have bought in the Protaras area. I am buying on Mesogios 11. Does anyone have experience in furnishing their house and how best to do it? Also has anyone had any joy in transfering funds from the UK without incurring sending or receiving costs? any advice appreciated.

Hi Caroline

IMHO the best way to transfer money is through a currency exchange company; I use HiFx.

For drawing small amounts of cash in local currency direct from a UK bank account without incurring any charges or suffering an uncompetetive exchange rate I would look at opening a nationwide current account in the UK. The are the only bank / building society offering this in the UK as far as I know. Probably not exactly what you wee asking but might be info of some use to yourself or others.

Hi,

Lana is right.

I know the MD of HIFX and they offer a good service.

There are of course other exchange companies so you may want to shop around.

Bear in mind that for free dealings most companies require a minimum amount to be tranferred. They do not deal in small units.

Caroline,

we have just used HIFX to transfer money to our developers. We found them very helpful and they explained everthing step by step, also we got a better rate than offered by the bank by 1.3 cents in the £stg. We are buying a place in Peyia, a development called Peyia Gardens built by Pafilia.

pressed the wrong button  , so to continue:

HIFX do not charge to transfer funds however Cypriot banks apparently charge between 7 & 20 CY£ to receive it . As regards to furnishing, Pafilia provide a service to accept delivery of items of furniture from a list of recommend suppliers and install them for you. Try speaking to your developers they may be able to do the same.

Hope this helps

Bye for now

Steve & Dawn.

And take a 20/30 % commission from the recommended supplier. I only know one developer who A) does not take a commission and B) will see the furniture in without charge.
Also he will attend the shop, pay the delivery payment etc etc.

Glad HIFX were Ok for you guys.

Thanks Steve & Dawn and H.

I've previously used Sterling Exchange and like the one you recommend they are very helpful and don't charge.

We are taking a small mortgage out in Cyprus and need to transfer funds monthly and it looks like transferring via these companies is better than using ordinary banks.

Our developer has recommended BoSelect for our furniture and they do install etc, I was wondering what other companies are out there that could allow us to do a price comparison.

Steve, Dawn, when are you expecting your purchase to be ready?

Hi Caroline,

We have bought off plan, infact the building work hasn't even started yet. We have been told/signed contract for the end of May 2007. Plenty of time to sort things out.

Have you found anyone else buying on your develpoment?, we would be interested in finding people who are buying on our development or better still someone who actually lived nearby who would/could keep us updated on the progress of the site.

Must dash,

Steve & Dawn :D

Hincyprus,

 20 to 30%, i think thats a bit much. Maybe we should approach the retailers and ask for a 15 to 20% discount to deal with them direct. Anyway Dawn was not to keen with most of the furniture offered. Have you guys got an IKEA or something similar out there?.

Thanks,

Steve & Dawn
