APPLE IPAD....

Anything related to the Internet, computers and technology in general.

Many times I upgraded video card, added various PCI cards and hard drives, changed hard drive from magnetic to SSD etc. Also there are things that can last for many years like a case, monitor, optical drives etc. And if some part breaks when out of warrantee I can easily replace it myself without getting ripped off by Apple and their dealers. If you buy something like iMac you have to throw everything when you upgrade. With laptops the difference might not be as noticeable because all laptops are limited in the way you can upgrade them, but for a desktop a windows PC can give better value / performance ... unless you value aesthetics too much. And when it comes to mobile devices like iPhone and iPad, Apple products are nice but too restricted, which is why many people try to jailbreak them. Apple is just trying to rip you off. Why do you think they don't have SD slot on the ipad? Because they want you to pay a lot more money to them to buy a model with more GB. They charge you $100 more to go from the 16GB ipad to the 32GB one, while if ipad had an SD slot you could just buy a 16GB SD card for $20.

At a time when the world is going for ever-bigger screens… projectors even for some, and at a time when every laptop has ever-faster wireless support, and laptops come in very small & lightweight sizes for those that "must" walk while they type… this has to be the lamest set of arguments for getting an iPad I’ve ever heard! The iCrap is no match for a properly configured and maintained laptop which shouldn't take more than a minute to load the OS.

I probably setup over 10 PCs of my own the past years and maybe 30 more for brothers sisters and friends, i have been dealing with computers a LOT. i freaking have a BSc and an MSc on the bloody field of computing!

Yet your computers take or took 2-3 minutes to load the OS!

Compared to what, a processor that’s meant to be three times slower?

For the price of ANY Mac you can ALWAYS build a faster IBM compatible.

Right that's it! .....

Allow me to say this... most of the normal world don't know about computers, they don't know how to build them and install the software from scratch ... and really they don't want to know.

Practically everyone who uses these things wants to get it home, open the box and switch it on and expect it to work without aggravations, instruction manuals etc etc... , and they cert don't want to worry about scammy viruses.

Have had bleeding problems getting new TVs tuned in or assembling IKEA shelving, but Macs always have worked out of the box within a couple of minutes.

... and what do almost all people do with these machines at home anyway?

Mostly some browsing, emails, some wp'ing, a bit of skyping perhaps, some home shopping.

... and for home users, what would you rather have? One of Sotos's grubby beige boxes hidden under a desk cos it's ugly, or a well-styled Mac to show off to your visitors?

So will you agree that for almost all people the Mac is the way to go?????

you still don't get it that an iPad is NOT a laptop replacement do you?
i guess you missed the net-book trend some time ago? was that a bigger screen? no! that was simply a more portable device!

a car and a motorcycle can exist together, don't be a fool trying to say that a car is better from a motorcycle, they are different categories mate.

you are talking about the kids that buy graphics cards worth 400 euro to add on their computer to play games? oh wait, they buy 2 graphics cards now in our days so they might spend 800 euro to have an ultimate gamin machine? save them some money will you? get them to get an xbox or a ps3, connected to a bigger screen, its always better as you said right? on a bigger screen, why they still bother with the smaller PC screen!

Yeah, it’s an overpriced TV remote control!

Whoever said that if a laptop is a car then the iCrap is the motorbike?

The iCrap can only be compared to any of the half-dozen remotes lying around the average home!

:? You’re avoiding the subject because you fear destruction!

For the price of a Mac one can buy or build a Xeon based machine and blow away your girlie-looking Apple!

NB: That’s not to say you can’t have a Xeon in a Mac but you’ll be charged twice as much for it!

A guy that is crearly againt the ipad
that does not have one To evaluate it
arguing about its usefulleness without being using one
But reading a thread about it, wonder why!
A guy arguing that a mac is expensive and not worth it
But never bought a mac to realize what exactly he is buying

Hmmm interesting!

Mate when you buy a mac and an iPad and think they are not useful or you got ripped off come here talk about it. There is no point arguing about someting you never owned!
