This smartarse doesn't think too much of the "trnc" economy either VP. No doubt the "impertenent" Greek Cypriots are to blame.

Have you heard of a little thing called isolation as bestowed on us by the stealing of our rights by the GCs.

...hard to tell vp, by your own history, the agitations were black operations, and the isolation self imposed. if anything it is the same extremists who hold the Agenda today. but just because there exsists as adversaries, "Greeks" and "Turks", they do not represent these majorities as Greeks or Turks, but for their own exclusivity; sadly, that's the funny part.

Your isolation is self imposed because you insist on keeping the illegal "trnc". Live in a legitimate regime and your so-called isolation will disappear. Here's a clue, give back what YOU stole from the Greek Cypriots, adhere to international law and all will be well.

No wonder Turkey gets a bad name and not trusted to be an EU member.

But what's worse, the reporter makes his/her own Lost in Translation of the "Lost in Translation" in the last sentance.

Lost in translation? Ministry censors EU report

8 January 2013 / TODAY'S ZAMAN, İSTANBUL ,

The Ministry of EU Affairs made changes to the translated version of the EU country progress report on Turkey released last year in what appears to be an attempt to please the government, according to a discovery made by Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) deputy Hasip Kaplan.
Kaplan on Tuesday tweeted a claim that the EU Ministry had distorted the translation of the English version of the latest country report on Turkey, released in October 2012. A comparison of the two reports has proven Kaplan's claim.

For example, the sentence “34 civilians were killed in Uludere by the Turkish armed forces on 28 December” that appears on page 34 of the original was translated as “34 civilians died in Uludere on 28 December,” with the reference to the “armed forces” being omitted.

The EU's references to "Cyprus" or the "Republic of Cyprus" were also translated as the "Southern Cypriot Greek Administration" throughout the Turkish version of the EU report to reflect the official Turkish stance. Turkey does not recognize the Greek Cypriot administration and says it represents only the southern part of the island, while the Turkish Cypriots run their own state in the north of the island. The Greek Cypriot administration, however, is internationally recognized as the government of the entire island.

...interesting and hopeful, from the same issue of Zaman,

In the meantime, some columnists have criticized a recent common discourse that “we shouldn’t damage Turks’ honor while restoring that of the Kurds.” Tarhan Erdem from Radikal says honor is not a value that one can have by taking it from another. “More than one person can have honor. Moreover, by protecting the Kurds’ honor, Turks are actually strengthening their own honor and those that oppose restoring more rights to Kurds are in fact putting their own honor at risk. Introducing cultural and political rights for Kurds is not a ‘grace we should grant.’ These are the natural rights of Kurds. Furthermore, this will help Turkey and Turks improve in practical and spiritual terms. The opposite will damage our honor,” he says.

Bugün’s Gülay Göktürk agrees with Erdem, saying rights are not in limited number and they surely do not decrease when distributed. Offering education in Kurdish won’t harm Turkish education or if more freedoms are introduced in the Southeast, freedoms in the west won’t be damaged by this. On the contrary, if the state acts in a more democratic way towards Kurds, it will raise Turkey’s democratic bar and welfare altogether. Or is the problem that Turks are worried about losing their first-class Turkish identity, Göktürk asks.

...fortunately there are Turks in Turkey, not just "Turks".

Turkey is not simply a candidate for European Union membership, but is a candidate for the union’s leadership, EU Minister Egemen Bağış said today
