How To Start A Childrens Nursery In Paphos

Postby MrsV » Thu Sep 08, 2005 7:36 pm

Hi all,
I'm moving to Paphos in December from the UK and would like some help.
I am looking to start up a nursery for children under the age of 4.
Any information that anyone can give me that could point me in the right direction would be great!
I have no idea where to start! - What are the rules? How to register? Etc?

Anything that anyone thinks may be useful to me, would be great. Or if you yourself has an existing nursery and you can give me any advice, I would be grateful.

Thanks so much!

Mrs V

Have you done your research for a Business Plan? The problem I forsee is potential demand; most Cypriot children will be looked after within the extended family. Most British couples are of the age that they no longer have young children, so please be cautious.

I agree with Svetlana.

Also Cypriot schools (well the ones in my village anyway) have a deal where they will look after the children until 6pm if required where the parents work and nobody else is available to look after them.

I can’t remember the exact figures but I know it was incredibly cheap with a small extra ‘nappy’ charge for very young children.

My situation is rather unusual.
I am not wishing to start this business for money. I'm doing it because of my love for children.
I have 8 years experience at Childminding in the UK and am lucky enough to have a partner support me in what I want to do.

My research has only just begun. But I came to this forum for help as I am finding it very difficult to know even where to start. The Cyprus Government site is down. That were to be my first point of contact.

I have friends and collegues that work in Paphos so I will be asking them if they can help, when I visit next month, but in the meantime, I am trying to find out anything I can.

Any help would be appreciated.

Do you speak Greek or your target market will only be the UK citizens?

I myself do not yet speak Greek, but there is no reason for me not to employ staff that do.
I do not intend on running the whole business alone!

Hi Mrs V

I do not wish to sound negative again but you said you did not want to set up the business to make money but if you are to employ staff as you now are saying, you will have to. And register for VAT and pay wages, and social insurance contributions equaling 20% of salaries paid; and 13th month salaries; setting up a business employing peolle here, goes way beyond a full time hobby. What are others' views?

I find it amazing that people are judging me without even knowing me or anything about me!

You are all making it sound like such a bad idea!
Believe me, it is something i have considered over a long period of time, i'm not about to jump into something I have no idea about.

I came to this forum for help and advice and all I have had so far, is criticism.

Obviously I am wasting my time here.
