Pressurised water systems

Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

An cheaper (and good) alternative is to pressurise the outlet of your HW cylinder and CW tank with a pump that only operates when you are drawing water, the rest of the time the pump is off and the pipes have low pressure water in them.

Thats what I have! Works fine

Cheers davidp, I 'm not too bothered about pressurising the whole system, just h&cw to the showers.
Apparently there's a fused-spured electric supply terminating close to the tanks on the roof, so I might just need to have the pump installed to do the full job.
When I'm next out in March, could I contact you?

Hi Steve,

We've got a water pressurising system - it's great - no cons but:

Much depends on the 'quality' of your plumbing. A pressurising system does increase the pressure in the plumbing and will tend to 'find' poor joints and worn washers. And it's better to have the continuous pipe-in-pipe plumbing system than the potentially dodgy grey plasic pipe that some of the developers use.

As someone pointed out earlier, you may need to have you solar water heating system upgraded or replaced as it may not be suitable.

Some of the pressurising pumps can be a bit noisy. Have it rubber mounted and don't have it installed over your bedroom.

(We used a specialist mechanical engineering firm in Limassol - Superclima)

Regards,

If your developer is doing the upgrade then there should be no problem provided he offers quality components and a guarantee that the system will withstand the increased pressure.

Without knowing the the specifics of the upgrade offered it would be difficult to give better advice, see my previous posts on this subject.

Good Luck!

A quick addition to my last posting.

I visited a property yesterday where the customer had paid for an upgrade to a pressurised water system only to find out some time later that all that had been done was to connect the existing hot water cylinder to the main.
Very dangerous and totally unsatisfactory. Of course the installer was nowhere to be found.

The moral is, get the job done by someone reputable and check the job yourself, if you don't know what your looking at get someone who does check the job.
