Was Makarios black mailed because he was gay?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

SKI-preo: You f*cking heretic! You play into the hands of the Mongols by printing this Zionist rubbish. Why would you even think about starting this topic off?

Viewpoint: Do you not believe that EVERYONE is inherently racist? Do you not think that Turks are superior to Greeks (now I know that you want to type 'Yes' to that question, but you'll be labelled racist by your own comments - oh, dear, dilemma, dilemma)?
Just labelling someone 'racist' has come to mean nothing because it's been too overly-used by the PC-brigade and so anyone who has different cultural views from what the apologists state is a racist.
I am racist. You are racist. Jews believe they are the chosen people so they are all racist. Czechs think they are better than Poles so they are racist. Americans think they are better than Canadians so they are racist. Australians think they are better than New Zealanders so they are racist. The Mongols think they are better than dogs so they are racist. Racism is a word that means nothing and is only to be feared in a workplace.

So what? It is all past history now. Nothing better to discuss?

Hi young girl. Missed you lots. GR and other friends as well. Take care you 'orrible lot.
Blimey Deniz, that was a quick visit. Why don't you try and persuade our favourite forumer, Milti, to return. I miss his wit, charm and plonkerisms. How is he BTW.

Oh, I nearly forgot, Makarios was a very heavy smoker but we never saw him smoking so, by the same token, how would we know he was gay.
Hi Jerry, it doesn't bother me one way or the other. in these discussions its just a cheap shot. they should have asked him when alive, why bother about it now. has any 'lover' come forward admitting to have received 'special favour's' from the exalted one? No?

Haven't heard from Milti for ages Jerry. he has a season ticket to ByeloR methinks.

The FACT is the British did blackmail Makarios. If he wouldn't sign they would proceed to partitioning the island, give part of it to Turkey another to Greece, and keep another part for themselves as Sovereign Bases and they told that to everybody.
I don't think the British had any evidence about his sexuality, remember EOKA had it's own network of informers, it's very unlikely that they could of have missed it and more unlikely to could of have risked it. If the Eokas have smelled anything, I am sure they would have killed him early enough.
What many people know though is that Miss Kokkinou, the headmaster of the Kykkos Gymnasium for Girls- there where my friend Kikapu was kept captive- was his mistress until the day he died, and the mourning "widow" after he passed away

NB. Makarios, Denktash, Kutchuk, Grivas, Sampson et al are those idiots who destroyed Cyprus, may they all rot in hell..

But, EOKA defeated Great Britain and therefore how could, if I may ask, Britain blackmailed Makarios with partition? Shouldn't it have been the other way? The victorious EOKA blackmailing the Brits to get a chunk of Devon, perhaps?

Pyrpoliser, I agree with you. These jokers, whom we still glorify, destroyed Cyprus.

This is absolutely un-f*cking-believable!

Pyrpolizer...On your list you have added two names who don't deserve to talked about in the same breath as the two Mongols you stated.

1. Makarios. This was a great man. A great leader. A great Greek. He was instilled as the first-ever president of Cyprus in a land-slide victory and nobody will ever win an election by so large a margin. He fought for what he believed and what the Cypriot people wanted - why should he be made a prisoner in his own country by an invading force that had no right to be there?

2. Grivas. This was a great man. A great leader. A great Greek. He did for Cyprus what the Irish could not do - got the Brits out of his country. This was a man with a distinguished army career and, oddly enough, was held in high esteem by the British army. He did what he did for Cyprus and not for self-gain.

Alright, I'm going to go for Sampson, too. He was a brave EOKA fighter and helped rid Cyprus of the Brits. Unfortunately, he made a bit of a mess in 1974 - but what else could he do? How many people would want the job of Presidency when their country has just been invaded by a superior (in military terms only - although have you seen pictures of the grey wolves? Hahaha - I'm embarrassed that even a bunch of yia yias could not beat them and go back to cleaning the house) force?

Then you put Denk-toad and Kut-clit on the list with them and say they should rot in hell! SHAME ON YOU.

You find how many countries have had their own freedom fighters and then find out how many people vilify them - whether they won or not.

The British preferred enosis of Cyprus with Greece as a solution -they agreed with Makarios. But it was the USA who blackmailed Britain into drawing up the unworkable Constitution - unworkable for the Greeks and the British (who wanted out of the guarantee treaties "before the ink was dry"), but 'workable' for the USA and Turkey.

Don't get too emotional my friend. I could go into deep discussion and prove what I said.
I would like to know if you are one of those who consider Tasos Papadopoulos as "a great hero who saved us from the Anan Plan", before continuing this discussion
