And now we have the Admission from GiG that the Eurozone is not working for Greece and Cyprus
GreekIslandGirl wrote:And of course, as with Greece, Cyprus could do economically better with their old currencies, certainly better than how the UK is struggling with Sterling. It is this very fact, that Greece and Cyprus could do better, that has made the EU determined not to over-push their luck because, more-so than for many other nations, the EU desperately wants Greece and Cyprus within the EU!

It is of course possible to be in the EU without being in the Euro....as GB is.

France BTW is forecast to have a triple dip recession,,,

On the contrary, it's working very well for Greece and Cyprus (costly, but effective). The main reasons Greece and Cyprus joined the EU were NOT for economic gains but for the defence the union brings.

Turkey cannot be fought alone.

Maybe the UK is unique in ONLY wanting economic gains. - There are also ideological concerns which attract other countries. Greece and Cyprus united in Europe with other stronger countries is the way to prevent Turkey attacking us further.

Greece is in tatters and Cyprus is desperate for a €15B bailout to keep the lights on...

People are unable to feed themselves, or pay their energy bills - they are burning furniture and trees to keep warm...

Businesses are closing, hotels stand empty and employment is at record highs - especially among the young...

Yet you claim "it's working very well for Greece and Cyprus"...

I'd hate to imagine what things would be like if it wasn't working well.... :?

You really have lost the plot....

No, gori mou, no hot water for a shower. That horrible Brixton Council took my solar panel off my tower block and stuck some surface to air missiles for the olympics. Now they have cutbacks and can't take them off again.

but they could have this without the Euro.....and the Eurozone (as opposed to the EU) is all about money and the control of the economy by distant beaurocrats) that goes with it.

What...?

That they are broke, burdened by debt then can never repay... unemployed... unable to feed their kids, unable to pay fuel bills... burning furniture and trees to keep warm...?

Turned from the holiday destination of choice to the place where nobody can afford to go...?

Destroyed by political instability...?

Daily riots and protests...?
