To be honest I doubt it will be legalized any time soon in Cyprus as majority are just too brainwashed on this matter.

The Law's an Ass ch00... particularly when we consider that pot has been "illegal" in much of the West since the 1920's... and all that illegality for all that time has done nothing, absolutely bugger all, to limit its growing popularity, particularly in the last 2-3 decades.

Prohibition of marijuana in the USA.

In the early 1930's, when weed was still legal, the paper mills were beginning to lose money because the decorinator, a device created to turn hemp into paper faster and cheaper than wood, was created. Many big time politicians and businessmen had large stocks in the paper mill industry and didn't like the idea. So they began a smear campaign against marijuana. They played the racism card, saying that marijuana is a drug taken by Mexicans and black jazz artists. They said that when high, people become insane killers and child rapists. Also, according to the, smoking one joint is the equivalent of 8 cigarettes and it causes cancer, they said it was a gateway drug etc.

cannabis is apparently not addictive and the reason it is a gateway drug is probably because it is illegal and forms a part of the illegal drug trade. Many of the claims made about alleged effects of Marijuana were likewise grossly exaggerated . However Cannabis use can lead to medical problems - I understand the smoke contains toxins and 50 carcinogens, it adversly affects driving ability while long term use can induce various psychosis,

quite - same goes for booze.....something that despite the vicious lies of Greek Island Girl I now only occasionally consume and then in moderation: enjoy it but don't need it. Same with weed- don't need it...don't bother with it, and doubt I would even if legalised and readily available - I don't in fact have a problem with the idea of legalisation of drugs, Marijuana in particular; as that would solve a lot of crime problems ,

The use of marijuana in the USA and some other parts of the world is much higher so it makes sense that it will be legalized there first. Eventually it will be legalized in most other parts of the world including Cyprus. I don't think there is any reason for Cyprus to be one of the first countries to legalize it. The last thing we want is for Cyprus to become attractive to drug addicts. Those are not exactly the kind of tourists we need... if we are so desperate for money then we might as well legalize cocaine to attract high class tourists ... we don't need the pot smoking hippies
