Another morning with no signs of secular Turkish support. It seems like we'll have to wait forever in this enemy forum.

Interior Minister Muammer Güler has said that, with reference to inspecting mixed sex houses, a circular will be compiled in the coming days and sent to provincial governates and, if the need for legal arrangements arises, that will also be attended to.

In Bingöl, coordinated police raids were conducted at houses accommodating students. A student named Abdullah Çeleş is reported to have been arrested. Police are said to have made a thorough search of student Murat Birsen’s home. The reason for the raids and the arrest have yet to be established.

Hey stpier, do you ever get the feeling that you are being ignored and that your pleas for Tim to stop posting are falling on deaf ears?

AK Party (Erdoğan’s party) Group Deputy Chair Nurettin Canikli, saying that he was yielding to insistence on the part of journalists, has given the following indication as to the action that would be taken against students living in mixed-sex households:

Üzerinde epey konuştuk. Polis bir yaptırımda bulunmayacak. Aynı evde yaşayan karşı cinsler komşuların da uyarısı sonucu tespit edilirse polis bu gençlerin ailelerine telefon açıp ‘İşte oğlunuz veya kızınız şu evde şu kişilerle birlikte yaşıyor’ diye bildirimde bulunacak. Başka bir uygulama kesinlikle söz konusu olmayacak.

[my translation]
We have discussed this a great deal. The police will not impose any sanctions. If, following a tip off from neighbours, people of the opposite sex are determined to be living in the same household, the police will phone the families of these young people and inform them, “Well, your son or daughter is living in such-and-such a house with such-and-such people.” Absolutely no other action is contemplated.

Gezi supporter Yilmaz Ozdil is pretty much against enemy supporter Tim:

That's why Tim is afraid to share his views with Turks.

The Youth Wings of the opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) have decided to take to the street “in mixed-sex groups” in protest at Prime-Minister Erdoğan’s comments about student accommodation. At yesterday’s Central Executive Committee meeting, party leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu expressed his support for this action and the party gave its approval. The party’s youth wings will hold protest activities on Saturday and Sunday in the busiest city streets and squares in 81 provinces.

It has been reported that public prosecutor Hakan Ali Erkan, who is investigating the wiping clean of CCTV footage some of which was later restored by the gendarmerie and used to identify a number of the culprits who gave a severe beating to 19-year-old Ali İsmail Korkmaz in the streets of Eskişehir during the Gezi protests on the night of 2-3 June leading to the young man’s death, has dropped the charges against some of the suspects, but is continuing with his investigation into expert Serkan Uğurluoğlu and anti-terror police officer Hüseyin Engin. In a gendarmerie report, Serkan Uğurluoğlu is said to have wiped clean the records twice rather than watching the footage and preparing a report which would help to shed light on the murder.

With Turkish Prime-Minister Erdoğan in Sweden yesterday on an official visit, Swedish newspaper Afton Posten carried the following picture on its front page with the headline: “Erdoğan - the man with two faces” and continued with the heading: “Will the Turkish Prime Minister be in Stockholm as Dr Jekyl or Mr Hyde? As an enlightened democrat who wishes to modernise Turkey, or as a despot who does not hesitate to stifle opposition and imprison journalists? Which face will two-faced Erdoğan shown in Stockholm?”
