Even Trabzon could beat the enemy team. :D I will be in friendly Mytilini for a day trip tomorrow. I am hoping to ask them why this weak team's supporters were carrying their flag.

If they win I shall be 300 euros in profit and will thank the Greek fşags big time :P

If they lose, you will be very happy to know - you won^t hear from me for a very long time!

Time for you to celebrate because the best team won… end of story!

I agree with you - but I think the Turkish team will be left very impressed by the Cypriot hospitality shown to them before the game (apparently the managers and chiefs of both clubs had a big meal together). They promised to return the favour when Apollon is in Turkey. Apollon must insist that the Turkish air-traffic control allow them to fly direct to Trabzon for the return game - and so they should!

But from what Halil said Trabzon hired a private Greek plane to come here and perhaps that’s why the direct flight was possible.

It’s not like the national Turkish carrier landed here! Then it would've meant something...

Hey was this match in Greece? in the pics we saw in the papers there was a massive Greek flag in the backround, why not your own flag?

Right wing team of Limassol. The only teams were you wouldn't see a Greek flag when playing against a Turkish team will be omonia and AEL (the rest won't get to Europe so don't matter.) The other top teams that play in Europe almost every year are more right wing such as Apoel, Apollon and Anorthosis.

Since when does being “right winged” mean that you hoist some other country's flag?

And should we assume that “right winged” Turks hoist Greece’s flag too? :?

 Stop pretending you don't know what goes on here. These teams were formed before independence and some during and BECAUSE of EOKA. Apollonas was formed as a club in order to hide weaponry coming from Greece to be used against the English during 55-59. Apoel translates to Athletic Football Club for Greeks of Nicosia. Anorthosis was formed in the same spirit. Left wing clubs will hoist Soviet Union flags, Che Guevara and sometimes even the odd Turkish flag to spite their rivals. It doesn't matter if you and I think this is stupid its what is happening. Its like telling the Irish in New York not to carry the Irish flags on St Patricks day parade.

The country has a lot of other problems before this becomes important enough to solve. Get the direction of the country right, decide the language the government will use to the people (Greek Cypriots- Cypriots- Greeks of Cyprus...all have been used depending on the government) and then the football fans will slowly adapt.

Personally I am proud of the Cypriot flag and remember taking a beating at school from other kids that wanted to carry the Greek flags to the demonstrations on the green line while I took the Cypriot one. It just so happens however that not everyone sees it that way and I can't blame them.

They are your equivalent. Just as you raise the Turkish flag and recite Ataturk every morning, there are GCs who do something similar on the other side of the fence.

At the same time, there's another percentage of the population with different viewpoints.

But you are the ones who claim to have changed, progressed and become "European" and that your real aim is to create a Cypriot island for Cypriots, yet your officials allow a giant flag of another country to be hoisted in such a sensative arena, what you say and what you do just does not ring true or create any confidence in the people on the other side of the fence.....whereas we do not claim such things.
