Is this all a counter-reaction to the British Bases setting up huge masts with meshes between them?

The main concern is that the mast, which will consist of massive metal towers with a wire mesh curtain slung between them, will act as a trap for the thousands of birds that use the salt lake as a wintering ground and migration staging post. The bases say no bird has ever been snared in existing masts.
CM

The RoC expressed concern about these huge mesh curtains that the British Military use and was told they do not snare any birds! What a joke! And now we are told Millions of birds are caught in some mysterious meshes slang on "their land" by Cypriots?

Possibility one - there is widespread illegal bird trapping in Cyprus that does real material damage to a number of endangered species.

Possibility two - its all lies made up by organisations like birdlife Cyprus (set up and run by Cypriots by the way), RSPCA, NABU, CABS and countless others because they hate Cypriots and hope to use such lies as a means to turn Cyprus back into a colony.

Erolz, I for one appreciate your efforts and those of your past/present colleagues, who struggle to save some of Cyprus’ wildlife so I hope you don’t get discouraged from doing so again by some of the negativity in this thread.

Unfortunately, some of our compatriots just don’t know when they should open their mouths and when they should keep them closed! :?

Of course this is in the CM so no doubt more propaganda designed by foreigners to topple Cyprus

Yet rubbish published by the UK DM gets linked on this forum daily as the real UK news

Why would anyone, specifically go to the Base areas to set traps? :? They are the most heavily guarded areas of our free territory.

I haven't been that near either of the Bases for years, but they were never easy to get in and out of without being spotted, stopped and asked for credentials etc. So how come so many peasant Cypriots are in and out with huge nets, sophisticated equipment (cars ?) etc constantly defeating these British heavily armed Forces (with their drones and their Nuclear deterrents and their shitloads of weapons they've stashed on our island).

What's more the article states they caught 1.5 Million birds this way, on the Bases! Mish! My gawd, these Bases must be riddled with hundreds of trappers all the live-long day for them to round up sooooo many birds. Unbelievable!

It's just not true and it doesn't matter how much Milo screams she MUST tell us how sick we are ... sometimes, we can just tell what the Brits are really interested in.

I think you are confusing the SBA as a whole with the actual military facilities. Yes the military facilities in the SBA are well protected and I doubt illegal bird trapping goes on there, but the Military facilities are only a part of the 99 square miles of the SBA, mostly inhabited by Cypriots, where there are no checks on entry and leaving. (I will say again that as a part of a comprehensive settlement that the SBA should go.). Therefore it is quite feasible that lime stickers and mist netters could be working in the SBA.

Here we go. Another attempt to undermine the RoC by CM

Is this a Cypriot tradition to be defended?

I too wish to echo these same sentiments and kindly ask Erolz to continue his good work because I too appreciate it all his efforts so far.

I do not see any correlation between the existence of the SBAs and illegal bird trapping. Maybe their masts do snare a few birds, but that is no different to other things like wind turbines etc.

It certainly is not a pretext to act as some kind of leverage by Britain to further intervene to the RoC's detriment as someone insinuated.

Fact is, Bird Trapping may be just as big of a problem within the SBAs as it is in other areas of Cyprus.

Keep up the good work Erolz! :D

Why didn't you post a link so that we can read the full story?

How many times has it happened for you to decide it's now a "tradition"?

Gawd I hope they force justice down on him and not do what the Britst did and believe it was some 'lapse of memory' ...

Why would anyone go anywhere NEAR a heavily militarized area to do such things? Doesn't that sound ridiculous?

If the SBAs are good for trapping birds, why are we told the masts strewn up by the British Military do not catch ANY birds and yet a few meshes here and there, courtesy of "Cypriots" catch 1.5 Million?

How stupid are you?
