quick update.

Escorted to the court by the police, the couple arrived and were led straight into the building joined with their approximate 25 supporters. Although there was a very heavy police presence, the most noticeable factor was the non-appearance of the Grey Wolves that had been present at the last 3 court hearings. Upon investigation it was noted that this was because the Wolves had been filmed by the police over the last few hearings and as a result there were 15 arrests yesterday of some of their members present outside of the court due to either illegally being in the north or for other police issues. This apparently gave a reason for the rest of them not to turn up at today’s hearing.

There were however 4-5 of the Grey Wolves inside the court listening to the proceedings. Two more witnesses were called for the Prosecution, one was a Policeman from the time of arrest of the couple and the other was one of the 4 mainlanders who had complained about the flag to the police before their arrest. Upon cross examination by their solicitor, both witnesses began shouting and the judge gave a 5 minute recess and threatened them both with contempt of court and told the Prosecutor to get them under control. The couple’s supporters felt that due to their rowdy behavior, both Prosecution witnesses were discredited and this was in fact to Koray and Cinel’s benefit.

After the witnesses, the judge adjourned the case till 4th June 2015 when the Defence will present their witnesses. Outside of the court, the couple were not allowed to give any statement to the waiting press and were led away by a police escort to their home with the unfurling of the Cyprus flag from inside their car. Supporters of the couple wore garlands of olive leaves and held up the victory sign whilst saying the words ‘Baris –Eirini-Peace’.

There were also statements made by the Political leader Izzet Izcan and the Teachers Union KTOS in support of the couple’s plight.

The case continues…..

renga news stop.

It goes to show that one is more secure when a country is under the EU Rules & Laws than the illegal "trnc" in the north. That's why Talat felt safe with just 3 police officers to protect him in the RoC, despite the protesting Elam supporters.

here it is, they were really at the european level.

...thanks Lordo (for the court room report).

And on the other note one can say that for both sides of the divide the police acted as peace-keepers, rather than law-officers, at least in these cases no one was hurt.

...i recall one incident where things got out of control but that was the Turkish Army, and more than likely intentional.

Are you talking about the incident in Limassol that led to the police chief being fired?

I was only commenting on Lordo's remarks that Talat only needed 3 police officers in the RoC for his protection. I don't know where the incident took place but perhaps it was in Limassol, in which case, there were 6 police officers assigned to the security detail. In any case, in the Limassol case, the police chief got fired for not keeping control of the situation. Democracy and Rule of Law in the RoC being exercised over that incident, wouldn't you say?

I can't find any reference to three police officers being assigned to Talat, in the CY Mail article Lordo posted it mentions that there were only 6 officers dedicated to the whole event, with an estimated 35 TC's attending. From the news articles I can see the TC police were quite adept in controlling the crowd, all things being considered. In relation to the Police chief being fired, I very much doubt that his performance managing security at the event was the only reason he was fired.

BTW I tend not to read Lordo's posts, reading a few gives me a headache.

and of course in this bastian of legality and protection of the law in the eu country there was this incident too. how right you are kikapu as always.

umit if you get headache from reading my posts may i suggest to you the dr lordo suggestion. stop furquin readin them. problem solved.

considering there were police injured here and there must have been video and photographic evidence of this event, amazing that nobody has been charged with anything. only one person was charged eventually and the charges were dropped. presumably the photos were not up to baily standards.
