Cabbie might be referring to the US intervention in WWII, without which all of Western Europe - and perhaps, all of Europe, including Greece and Cyprus - would be under the rule of Hitler. In which case GC would have lost 100% of their land for sure.

Also, perhaps protecting the West from the 'Red Threat' of 1950/60's Russia; though the world would have been taught the correct way to drink Vodka!

...And more recently the Balkan conflict, which the Europeans would still be talking about if the Americans hadn't got involved...BTW, the Europeans, to their shame, asked the Americans to get involved.

This "threat" was created by the Americans to serve their own interests.

I like how the Americans label us as just Europeans...like we are all the same.

OMG, another plot

This is the truth.
The soviet union never had the power to compete with the USA. The whole issue was created by the Americans so they could go around policing the world. This is why when the USSR collapsed a new enemy was needed: The Terrorists!

No way in hell you will catch me thanking americans for anything :x

Then you must have the memory span of a goldfish, or you're an ignorant son-of-a-bitch... To use an American euphemism

Well, before I decide which one of the two options I am, maybe your well informed self could enlighten me (and possibly other forum members) what we are "forgetting"?

The fighting forces around the world do not decide who they will fight. That decision is made by politicians, who are voted in by the people i.e. you. The politicians have safe bunkers to hide in when the fighting starts. Whether it be a soldier, sailor or air force they DO deserve thanks because without them being prepared to die none of us would have the freedom to be sitting in our cozy rooms writing on this forum.

Recently when a Russian submarine was in difficulties the Royal Navy played a vital role in the international rescue of the 7 Russian submariners. Not one submariner I have ever met would say I am not helping them because they are Russian, American or Martian.

This year alone the Royal Navy working with the Americans has prevented drugs with a street value of billions of pounds getting on to the streets by catching the dealers while still at sea. Funny how newspapers do not bother to report the good.

There is also the little matter that without the help of the Americans in World War II, Japan and Germany would have won.

Many people are NOT with us today because of them though. You seem to forget the other side of the story ;)

In any war (oops sorry politicians don’t call it war now, they call it conflict because we all know that no one gets hurt in a conflict, yea sure) both sides lose good people. No body should be prepared to lose human life for a political goal but unfortunately it happens. But please do not blame those sent out to do the fighting because they do not have a choice as to whether they do what is ordered or not.

Blame the countries that do not allow free elections or where the military run the country.

So... The plot thickens, we'll soon be back at the good old "The Americans did 9/11 themselves" plot.Image

In the past few years it's become fashionable to critisise and blame the Americans for the woes of the world, you take todays fashions, I'll stay with reality.

Wait up....Soldiers are PAID to "fight". This is their source of income. Essentially they are no different from a Baker, Tailor, Doctor, Lawyer etc.... it is their profession. The only perceivable difference is that they have the ability to kill others under some one elses order.

So why not set up the following websites:

Soldiers don't choose their wars, their battles or their enemies.

To fight and nearly die for one's own freedom has a feeling all to its own,....
the protected will never know.
