Most soldiers are not so smart people with low education or people that are poor and had no other option. It is not their fault if some governments use them for criminal purposes.

Let us not blame Amercian soldiers for the policies of their country, whether you agree with the policies or not. Too often, on this Forum, I see people 'blamed' for the actions and policies of their Government.

I am sure many patriotic Cypriot citizens do not agree with the actions of our Government; why should other countries be different?

I agree that the soldiers should not be the ones to blame.

Then you must have the memory span of a goldfish

What exactly do we forget? For what should we thank americans?

Or you mean things like "Thank you for not using your nuclear weapons against us", "Thank you for not supporting the occupation of the whole Cyprus", "Thank you for allowing us to exist". This is what you mean?

Hi Piratis

Cabbie might be referring to the US intervention in WWII, without which all of Western Europe - and perhaps, all of Europe, including Greece and Cyprus - would be under the rule of Hitler. In which case GC would have lost 100% of their land for sure.

Also, perhaps protecting the West from the 'Red Threat' of 1950/60's Russia; though the world would have been taught the correct way to drink Vodka!

The Germans had started developing missiles and they were ahead in the development of nuclears as well. If Germany was winning that war the Americans would never become a superpower, and maybe they would be eventually occupied as well.
The war was not won by the Americans alone, but by everybody. Therefore I don't understand why we should thank them for this.

In which case GC would have lost 100% of their land for sure.

At that time our land was 100% occupied in any case since we were a British colony.

Also, perhaps protecting the West from the 'Red Threat'

This "threat" was created by the Americans to serve their own interests.
