PC gone mad

Postby Paphitis » Mon Feb 16, 2015 4:24 pm

Christmas and Easter is only for the rich!

They have banned it from public schools. Children can't celebrate the magic and let their imaginations and innocence thrive. Yes, they love these calender events, perhaps for the wrong reasons but the PC brigade ban it because it might be offensive.

This is what is occurring in the UK and Australia. I believe America is resisting this well because of their religiosity.

We have become so sensitive to the feelings of these minorities who have chosen to migrate.

So great news. Christmas and Easter now costs $20,000 at an elite private school belonging to various Christian denominations.

Even a Greek Orthodox Private School enrollment for the reception year will set parents back $10,000.

Not many working class people can afford Christmas or Easter anymore without making huge sacrifices which many do.

Christmas & Easter are not celebrated in schools, because during those days schools are closed.

Actually you are making it sound much better than it is as far as "Political Correctness" is concerned, the banning (or discouragement) of the two religious festivals you highlight are but a small example of the small-mindedness (or pusillanimous attitudes) of they that seek to please everyone by attempting to minimize the possibility of anyone being offended.

Almost every aspect of our lives is subjected to a certain amount of P.C. control, we may not show our flags or emblems in places where they may cause offence, we may not utter any comments that may be construed as "Racist" (can't even give a kid a Golliwog) in case it upsets the dark-skinned neighbours (musn't call 'em coloured but Black is O.K. but wasn't a few years ago).

Perhaps a chap like Miltiades should be appointed as "Commander-in-Chief" of the brigade, THAT would put paid to all the nonsense and we could even engage on forum without fear of upsetting anyone by calling them nasty names............ "Ah, Utopian Dreamer".

That is what I said. The authorities are trying to please (or not offend) people of other faiths (predominately Muslims) because they think it could cause offense.

I mean, I can honestly say that religious festivals of other faiths do not offend me. I am off to Saudi Arabia next month and my children will attend school there. Lucky for me, they will be attending an elite private school full of foreign expats usually from the Oil and Gas industry but other sectors as well, and all paid for, which is great because it is expensive.

The Saudis, have actually respected my culture by doing this, and in turn I respect their's even though I may disagree with a few things but it's not as if I can do anything about it.

I can accept who they are, and they should respect and accept Westerners before migrating to such countries.

If the principles advocated by the P.C. Brigade were applied with the same degree of force in ensuring that the sensibilities of those who adhere to the Muslim faith may worship and feel safe from ridicule (which you almost refer to by suggesting "Predominantly), it would surely lessen the tensions which now exist in so many areas of conflict.

It is abundantly clear that "The Faithful" are among THE most devout followers of their faith in comparison to others.

It has been demonstrated so many times that Muslims will not accept ridicule of the prophet Mohammed (pbuh) that one can only conclude that such ridicule is circulated consciously and purposely (as with the recent and previous "Cartoons") and the repercussions of the folly of it is well known to us all.

If you advance the opinion that such publications are acceptable under the umbrella of our "Freedom of Speech", you immediately negate ALL OTHER restrictions simply because it is now (and always was) well known that such ridicule is highly offensive.

Similarly, your comment indicating the value of "Respect" for other cultures (and none could fault you on that), would surely result in a far greater understanding between both Eastern and Western nations if the same amount of consideration was directed at achieving such an understanding as is currently being employed in the destruction of Eastern culture.

Perhaps no such force as "ISIS" would ever have existed (nor others of the same ilk). I am sure we are all well aware of the awful consequences of their formation.

Place the blame for ALL the disharmony in the Middle East firmly where it belongs, reach for and study the "Q'uran" and be sure to place it uppermost on your bookshelf, adhere to the teachings of the prophet (pbuh) and enjoy a peaceful life............."Insha Allah".

Yes I am a strong advocate in Freedom of Speech for the press and media and all should be fair game whether Christian or Muslim.

And I am sorry to say but the UK and Australia seem to be the only countries in the world which it would appear would bend over backwards to be as accommodating as possible to persons of other faiths so much so they think it is appropriate to rid the public education systems of any mention of things such as Christmas and Easter.

I know, it's pretty pathetic!
